Sky Install - Flexible?
Hi all,
When I moved in last year the house already had a sky dish and the cables installed, included a coaxial cable to feed the TV upstairs via the RF2 and the magic eye.
I was donated a SKY+ box from a friend that is over 18+ months old, i connected it up to the with the single cable from the dish and it works OK (Free-Sat). I can pause live TV and record but ONLY on a single channel. It does sometimes fail to record channels but works 80% of the time.
Now however I have decided to get SKY (£21 per month) installed using the introduce a friend and you both get a FREE Sky+ box.
I spoke to Sky and they are happy to rip out the old dish and the cable from it to install all new so I booked the install.
What I would like to know is how flexible are the engineers that come to install SKY. I would love for them to also wire in my other non-sub sky+ box but unsure if they would do this?
Cheers

Re: Sky Install - Flexible?
I think the moving of your old system is fairly standard, if not bung him twenty pound or something, I am sure you will be accommodated.

Re: Sky Install - Flexible?
the sky fitters will normally have x amount of jobs to do per day, if they are behind or running late, they may not be able to do the extra work needed (would not want some other poor soul to wait an extra day for his install)
as with most other engineers it will also depend on the person and the sort of day they have had, saying that i have had 3 sky fitters to my house, 1st was to fit sky and was fantastic, 2 came out to sort out the bad signal (tree growing next door was in the way) i was not home when he came, but from what the wife said he looked at the dish, saw the tree was the problem then said there was nothing he could do and left.
the third fitter came out a couple of days later and moved the dish up with no problems
i hope your intall goes well, and that the guy will be able to do the extra cables (but if he cannot due to time, there are always local workmen that would be able to help and it would not cost that much)Links

Re: Sky Install - Flexible?
You are correct. When I worked for Sky,I did'nt have time to do 'extras' as sometimes you have to drive a bl**dy long way between jobs. Also sky would charge extra for the work.
Newsreader,£20 bung for the work would be the minimum depending on where the dish & STB was in the home.A spark would charge £80 to £120 minimum so £50 would be more 'apt'. Especially if the engineer has to come back on his own time & supply his own kit.

Why not simply work for yourself? If you can install dishes, aerials, TV points, phone points, you can earn over £50k a year.
