My "home-made" Sky TV & Sky Radio Channel Guide

Hi everybody, I think I have an idea to make everybody life more easily to remeber the whole Sky TV & Radio Guide.

All you have to do is..... Download this file, open it up in Microsoft Word, you can either see it on the screen or print out all the pages, then put these documents in seperate A4 plastic pockets multi-punched or A4 polypropylene punched pockets (whatever its is called) which it can be purchase in either Woolworths or WH.Smith. After that, put all five plastic wallets together, stapled three times on the top, middle and the buttom on the thin white strip, where all the holes are to make it like a small A4 magazine.

That way, instead of flickinig and flicking around the channels to find your favourite TV channel, or your favourite Radio Channel or can't remember what channel number is to search for your favourite programmes or soaps, all you can do is look through my "home-made" Channel Guide and then "Ah, ha!! There it is".

It takes me ages to design it, but I love doing it, since I have my PC right next to my TV on the right, so that I can both watch TV and surfing the Internet / Chatting on MSN / Yahoo simultaneously.

It was all my idea, its all started when my mum keep on flicking around all the channels to look for OBE - Channel #155 and my dad got fed up with her flicking the channels around, flatting down the Sky control batteries and keep on asking me which channel number it is on, and I keep on saying channel #155, but she keeps forgetting everyday. Then she asked me again about which channel for Passion TV - Channel #169, then an idea come up in my mind, so I went to my bedroom, switched on my TV and my PC, put my Sky+ box on to "TV Guide" mode and select "All Channels" (press 1 on the remote control), and then I use Microsoft Word, creating tables, typing it all up one by one and copying the 10 channel listing format exactly the same way shown on Sky Guide "ALL CHANNELS" menu from Sky+ box. I love the menu background music. After all that, I print it all up, make it like a book, give it to my parents, they were very surprised and saying "Hey, that's exactly what I needed! I love it very much, but where do you get this idea from?" And I said "Well, you know, I always come up with very good ideas." and they said "You're right and that's why you're my most favourite son!".

Give it a try and let me know about what do you think of my "home-made" Sky TV & Sky Radio Channel Guide?

Not at all. The more info we have to help others is appreciated. Like Fibre says, why not combine and make it one of the best on the net?

Actually, I think its very good idea, but don't stop updating your one, keep doing it. As the way, I see it, if you feel something is right, keep doing it. But, bear in mind, I only have done it because on-one has designed a Sky TV & Sky Radio Guide before when I needed one badly to print one for my parents to use, and my parents kept on asking me about which Channel numbers are, but I got fed up with it in the end, and while I was doing it, I thought that some people may be experiencing the same thing that I went through, so I add it onto Skyuser forum to make it more easier for everybody who wanted the Sky TV / Radio Guide.

So I come up with something very simple, not too flash, without the need of using a PC, since my parents don't know how to use a computer. So I decided to make a paper-based Sky TV & Sky Radio Guide.

and a version for people who dont know how to use PC's... like your parents

Re: My "home-made" Sky TV & Sky Radio Channel Guide

clearly a lot of work has gone into to this... one question, how do you find a channel quickly on it (like OBE) as I had to look down every single channel to find it and ended up looking past it because I couldn't see the wood for the trees.

Obviously an on-line version means I can use the 'find' function in Word, but with the printed version I had no choice but to read through every channel until I found it.

Should it be done by 'genre' (ie the basis that Sky use to help people find there channel) or should be it A-Z (again an option in the Sky planner to aid finding your channel quickly).

Also (for both skyfan and Jonathen), how will you ensure that these are kept up to date as sky add channels to the EPG and re-jig channel numbers all the time?

      Just something to think about.

      Good work by the way.
