Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.

Hmm, I have a letter from these jokers today!

Obviously, I've sent it right back in little pieces so they can pick up the cost of the return mail but what concerns me is how did they get my details?

I received a call today purporting to be from Sky Protection telling me my subscription had expired last month and offering me renewal for 2 boxes for £200 for 3 years cover or £80 pa or £7.50 per month. I was suspicious so asked for their number and contact and said I would ring back, so that I could check my policy and ring the real Sky Repair Plan company (D&G). The policy and D&G confirmed the policy expires in November and this was not an authorised call or an authorised company. I'm waiting for them to call back but not holding my breath.
For the sake of anyone else contacted by these shysters, the number is 0870 7777 375 and the contact was Ronney.

I just had a phone call within last 30 mins claiming that the current sky subscriber has a warranty which has expired on sky box and dish and i must give out personal details now to renew. Starting with my post code. I said I am sorry who are you? he said I am phoning from sky. I said I am sorry I don't want to renew thank-you. He slammed phone down. So I looked at caller ID I was surprised.... 01243 867 367
Claiming to be sky. So I phoned him up with that number this time I was curious. A person came on saying "hello madam, what is your postcode please?" I said "sorry i wont give you my details but who are you?", he said "I working with sky"... so I asked again, "who are you personally your name?" he said "Alan". He asked for my postcode and my surname. I challenged him at that point as I said, well you have my details you tell me who I am if you have my telephone number you know who you are talking to, for you to call me in first place. He laughed at that point, so I said okay I will report you to relevant people and slammed phone down. Within 5 mins he phoned back but I didn't even bother picking up phone. Just dont give them your postcode or surname seems all they have is your telephone number.

What I think is this.

A scam is only a scam if the person or company does not do whats expected of them, does this company actually honor any warrenty claims?

But why, I would have just slammed the phone down probably given them a few expletives first and then forgot about it.

NB - you must buy this within the first 3mths of getting your box so the term is only 2yrs 3 months as the first 9-12mths you are also covered by your standard 12mth warranty.

Factor in the Sales of Goods Act and the EU legislation and I'm still not convinced about extended warranties.

This warranty is Dispatched from and sold by Entertainment Xclusive, have just e-mailed Domestic and General to check the authenticity of these packages, will post their responce when I get it.
What if anyone buys a box privatly eg: e-bay or legitimate supplier such as SatBuyer Pace TDS850NB Sky+HD Digibox | Sky+HD | Satbuyer will sky still allow sky protect for example to to purchased on a hd box they have not supplied after the initial 12 month warranty?

Oh for goodness sakes. The company formerly known as Satellite Direct is back again under a new name. Just had a call from 01273357382 and they claimed that I had insurance with them before. No point in explaining that I had been conned into talking to them the previous time, that I was with TPS and that the Trading Standards had taken them to court. The lady was just rude and adamant they would never use tactics like that. At least they are still in West Sussex so can get back to Trading standards there.
