Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
Hmm, I think I may have been caught out by this. I'm still kicking myself.
I set up Sky+ back in January and a couple of weeks later got a call from someone claiming to be from Sky, asking me to take out a warranty to cover it. Which as I had just set it up sounded a bit more believable.
Thankfully no payments have gone out yet, but I just happened to see a Sky+'ed episode of Watchdog from 3 weeks ago where this company is mentioned and I'm pretty sure that's what's happened to me. One guy on there said it was about a year before they actually took any payments off him.
I've looked on my account and 'REPAIR PROTECTION' is listed under my direct debits, but no payments have gone out as of yet. So is this pretty much the same thing?
EDIT: I've just found a phone number for Sky Repair Plan and gave them a ring, it seems I have set up the repair with them, he was even able to give me a reference number that links to the direct debit, so that's a relief!Last edited by AndyUK; 27-03-08 at 04:57 PM.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
If your able too, cancel the direct debit online or ring your bank before they do take anything. If its related to something else then usually that company will write to you and check if the cancellation of the direct debit mandate was made in error giving you the opportunity to re-instate it.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
That's funny because a couple of days ago, I received these documents in my letter as follows:
Then, a few hours later on the same day, they called me from the 0800 number. But I keep on putting them off by saying that I haven't got any money left, since I'm paying all my debts off at the moment as well with other bills on top of that.
Then, they just say to me, "thanks for your time" and put the phone down on me.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
Also, yesterday, they send me 2 letters containing this document:
Basically, I have two copies of this document above, as well with my paper-based Sky Monthly bill, which it come up as £70.07, not bad for 386 calls including one 1 x 0845 number from Sky Talk Unlimited package + Sky World TV (including Multi-room for both Sky+ & Sky digiboxes) + Sky Broadband Max.
I knew it!! This is another scam!! As I have learned it from my experiences in the past - the hard way!! Also, my friend, who works for Dulux, has Sky+ box for 4 years without any insurance plans, he says its not worth it.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
Hey, I got the exactly the same letter as shown in Undecided Adrian's reply in a brown enelope saying "for SKY Customers WARRANTY INFORMATION" from yesterday's post to my door. Two of them, one of them have my correct spelling of my name and the other one has my name spelled wrong, exactly same letters as shown below - using Undecided Adrian's link:
I just shredded it using my shredder and put it the bin afterwards.Last edited by jonathanen; 05-04-08 at 06:44 PM.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
I have had numerous phone calls and mail from Digital Services regarding warranty on my Sky+. When i finally told them on the phone i didnt want to renew they said OK, there was no pressure which i was surprised about. However within 2 or 3 minutes i noticed the "on line" light was on on the front of my box. This wasnt anything i had done and so could only have been from outside party!!!! Call me cynical but i wait with baited breath for a fault to develop.
Is this possible for them to interfere and has anybody else experiende this?

afaik Digital Services play the numbers game. They don't actually know that you are a Sky subscriber and hope that you are. The thing is people fall for it, and that is the worrying part.
~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Interesting you say that - because they call me on the mobile number I gave Sky for the installation of my mums Sky system, so the installer could call me rather than disturb my mum.
They also call me on my home number regarding my Sky system and they send both my mum and me letters at our respective addresses.
I think they are getting their data from a fairly reliable source.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.
Well,
I have managed to get the MD's details, and a telephone number.
I have had about 12 calls over the last 10 days from this company, and they keep promising to remove my details, but don't! I have had half a dozen letters from them as well, which I keep sending back in their pre-paid envelope. (but they don't take the hint on that either)
I insisted that the sales people gave me a number of head office, and have been given 01273 770401. The lady who answered was really annoyed that I had been given the number, as it was a "Back Office Number Only", and "Not Customer Facing".
Her name was Bianca, and she tried to palm me off with getting me to write into them. Obviously I have done this, and they don't take the hint.
Anyway, i got the MD's name, which is Tristen Galdes, and he is apparently going to call me back tomorrow....we will see!!
I wonder if they gave the BBC the same run around when they were investigating them?
There are also reports on the Information Commissioners website regarding this company not surpressing mailing and call data against the preference services lists!
I'll post details here after Tristen calls (if he calls!), but, please feel free to use the number to log your complaints!!!! Give them hell!!
That number again...01273 770401
David
