Got mine yesterday as well; amusing since I'd just had HD installed a day before, and they were saying I had a Sky+ box - so they obviously made things up.

Drew a Crudely-Drawn-C**k on the letter in bright pink felt tip, popped it in the envelope and sent back. I can feel myself gaining karma points right now!

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.

I am absolutely furious with Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd.

They rang my girlfriend around the same time as her genuine Sky cover was due for renewal and the words used were very much designed to imply that they were an official part of Sky.

So my girlfriend signed up for the cover with them but has recently discovered her error as the genuine Sky cover people have contacted her about renewing cover.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, my girlfriend immediately contacted her bank and DSWC Ltd to cancel the cover.

Yesterday she received a letter from DSWC Ltd saying that she is subject to a legally binding contract and she either needs to:

      1) Continue paying the monthly instalments for 12 months or the matter will be dealt with by their legal dept with a view to prosecuting her in the small claims court.

      or

      2) She can pay a 25.00 cancellation fee.

I'm disgusted with them for doing this and now my girlfriend is panicking and doesn't know what to do.

      Any ideas people?

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.

If she is outwith the 14 day 'cooling off' period ( Financial Services ( Distance Marketing ) Regulations 2004 ) having signed the DSWC Ltd document, she's legally liable, I'm afraid. The problem with these people, and others like them, is that they just have to mention the word Sky for people to think it's the official Sky insurer Domestic & General on the line. Their practices are morally dubious, but legal, regrettably. And how much Sky themselves are involved in passing on customer details to Third Parties is unknown, although mention is made under 'Privacy' on the Sky website:

" to share your information with other carefully selected companies outside the Sky group for sales, marketing and market research by such companies; " et seq.

I assume DSWC are one such.

Anyway, she'll have to weigh up the difference between cancelling and paying the 25 and then renewing her cover with Sky Protect, or just leave things as they are with DSWC.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.

I was contacted by someone yesterday who purported to be someone from Sky Protect telling me my cover was due to be renewed on my sky equipment. I was a bit surprised and then they asked me to confirm my postcode which I did but alarm bells started ringing when they asked for me to confirm my bank account number. I questioned why this was as they'd already got it and they came back with some excuse but I said no I'll call you back myself. This person gave me a 0151 number called Steven. I dialled 1471 after I hung up and got an 0871 number but went and found the contact numbers myself as I didn't trust this and found out it was a bogus call - my cover doesn't run out until October. I would like to know where they've got my details from - seems like they've tapped into the sky customer database somewhere to get people's telephone numbers.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.

Just had guy from 'Sky Lite' on the phone. He informed me that my current policy was due for renewal (I haven't got or ever had a policy of any description) and he wanted 8.45 per month or 99 for the year.

He tried to explain that I did have a policy, but it was included in my monthly Sky subscription and was not itemised so would be un-noticed!

      Cowboys!

Don't tell them you are not interested, when they start their drivel just put the phone done, being polite doesn't help.

Re: Beware of bogus Sky TV warranty letters/telephone calls.

to be quite honest I wasnt.

They started their speal to which i responded "what is this call concerning", they continued, I had to repeat myself 3 times.
I knew as soon as they started what it was they were selling.
They were then treated to some of my favorite english words.
