Intermittent loss of bbc1 and bbc1 HD in evening

      Hi All

I'm new to the forum and need some help. I haven't phoned sky yet as my life is to short for that unless I have to.

Three or four weeks ago I noticed BBC1 was starting to come up 'no satellite signal being recieved' on my original PACE 3100 all other channels were fine. I presumed that the 7 year old box was on its way out.

Took the plunge an changed the whole shooting match ( sky already missed broadband activation day) now proud owner of sky+hd 1tb box, hd and unlimited broadband.

Unfortunately after a couple of days BBC1 and BBC1HD has started to stop working. This usually happens in the late afternoon to early evening and sometime they can come back later in the evening.

I have tried a number of suggestions from googling it with no joy. My wife who is not a great fan of expensive technology isn't impressed, three program's recorded so far that have failed halfway through.

Any help would hugely appreciated as I can't afford to call out an engineer.

Did you install it yourself or did a Sky Engineer set it all up for you? If the Sky Engineer did it, then you should IMHO be entitled to a free call out to resolve things.

It is possible that the LNB needs to be replaced.

If you did a self install then you could look at doing this yourself or your could get a local contractor to do it for you.

Cheers for the reply. Yes I did the install myself. Is it Likley that the lnb would just start to go wrong?

      Yes LNBs can fail.

If you want to be sure that you new STB is fine, then it might be a good idea to take it to a friend's home and connect it to their dish.

A replacement 4-port (Quad) LNB will cost under 10. If you only have the one STB, then this is more than enough.

If you want to do this yourself, provided that you are able to access the dish of course, then I would suggest that you get a signal meter. Simple versions are available from places like ASDA or Maplin.

Try the simple things first. I'd personally remake the 'F' connector connections that fit onto the back of the Sky box. They simply screw on/off and remaking these after cutting off an inch of the existing cable will make them like new, simply make sure the central coax wire doesn't touch the out shielding braid or the body of the connector and push the outer copper braid back along the outer plastic, then screw on the 'F' connector.
