Try this - Click on open Network connections. This will open a pane showing your Network adapters. Right click on the Wireless one and select Properties, then open the Wireless tab. Check if the box 'Use Windows to configure....' is ticked. If it is not, tick it. This will enable the Windows Manager.

Just a quick query, your version of XP is at least Sp2? This is required for WPA to work properly.

XP version is SP3. "Use Windows" is already ticked.

I can't see why you are unable to connect with WPA. Would you like to set it up again in the router, using a nice easy password like abcd1234 so that there is no mistake with it. Remember to use cable as you will loose connection again. When you have set it up, if the Asus does not connect right away, try rebooting it, see if it will then.

Will give it a go - but do I not need to use the network key assigned by Sky?

No, infact you are better not to. Once everything is working you can set up a really secure one.

Have re-set using WPA. The Asus will connect to the network and to the router, but I still cannot surf the net.

Curiouser and curiouser, could you open a Command Prompt while you are connected to the router by wireless and type ipconfig /all >enter and paste the result here.
