For the Sky LLU products there seems to be no technical reason to change the MTU from the default of 1500 (as recently confirmed by a poster who appears to have knowledge of how Sky's network/exchange equipment is set up). That said some people have changed their MTU and feel they can detect improvements, so who knows.
The Sky Connect service (which you are on) is different. This uses BT's network/exchange equipment. Some while ago BT recommended an MTU of 1458 for their Broadband products. This was back in the days of 512k but, as far as I know, this advice has never been rescinded.
Why did you choose 1492 ? (which is actually the correct MTU for PPPoE - whereas in the UK we're PPPoA). If you want to make a change and you're on Connect, 1458 would be more logical.
