      Another Router Drop out issue

I posted before about my router suddenly dropping out and reverting back to factory settings, which I see I am not the only person with this issue.

Last night, my internet connection dropped out again (albeit the factory settings stayed the same), prior to this I was using Safari browser, when the internet came back and the router was working again. I couldn't access any webpage on Safari, nothing would load

It was only when I went into the network. settings. Proxies..

I had seen the Auto Proxy Discovery box had somehow got ticked (definitely not by me) there are no ticked boxes in this section.

It was only when I unticked the box that Safari was able to access any webpage and starting working again.

Any explanation as to why this happened, do you think the router is at fault here.

Re: Another Router Drop out issue

The only major change I am aware of with Safari recently was that support for Silverlight has been dropped.

There may well be other changes too which have affected things.

As for your router losing it's settings that is a little more worrying.

Your profile indicates that you have the Sagem 2504, which is getting on for 4 years old I guess. The age shouldn't be an issue, but it could be an early sign that it is failing.

You might want to consider contacting Sky to see if you can get the Sky Hub SR102 at a discounted price. I believe that some customers are able to get one for around 29 + postage (6.95 if my memory serves me right).

Do check that you're not agreeing to another 12 month contract with Sky first, unless you are alright with that.

Whilst many of the features between the two are the same, the SR102 does support WiFi n speeds up to 144mbps, compared to the WiFi g speeds of 54mbps for the Sagem 2504.

      PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

Thank you, I have only just found out that Sky allows you to use any router now, so I am wondering if I can get a router at argos or PCWorld, or even check out Ebay.

I never use wireless so this would not be a consideration for me, I just want a basic new router.
