      new sky router news?

      hi,

Just wondering if there has been any news from sky or leaks about a new router coming out? or even if sky are in the process of designing a new router.

I have fibre broadband with sky and have the black router with the rubish wifi.

Had it ages now and could do with a more upto date one or im going to have to buy my own.

A new sky hub has been in the pipeline for some time:

Well that thread was 5 months ago so not a lot moving on that front at the moment. IMO Sky will always put out cheap as chips routers and charge an arm and a leg for them (much the same as all the other ISPs) if you already have a rubbish router and want to change. I did just that and they charged me 69 for the SR101. I bought the SR102 (the black one ) of EBay for a tenner plus postage and whilst the wireless on that was junk at least I could get rid of the BTO modem and free up a bit of table space. I piggy backed a TPLink router off the SR102 to improve the wireless capability. One of the problems of buying your own router is that you need to be super duper technical whizzz kid to get any non-Sky routers to work.

If you have wireless ac compatibles devices like the new iPhones/iPads/MacBook etc I'd say go for the ac68u,I have one and the wireless performance is fantastic with my MacBook Pro,not quite up to wired gigabit speeds but it hovers between 400-800 depending on where I am in the house. I have 13 devices connected to mine via wired/wireless and I've never had it falter once,it's connected via the bt open reach modem and I run merlin software on the it so I can connect to sky without their router. The dual band wireless is handy too,I can pick up about 10 other 2.4ghz networks round me,but mine is the only 5ghz one so I don't have to worry about interference

Are there still issues with the DSL range or have Asus now fixed these?

Other than "there is something in the pipeline" there is no official information as to when Sky will launch their next router. There is speculation of what it may or may not be able to do, but as always we don't know or if it is known, NDA will come into play and people can't say.

I am aware that there are lots of things happening this year in Sky's Broadband department. A new router capable of supporting a 1Gbit connection is a must. With projects in both Basingstoke and York, Sky would look a little silly if they supplied an SR102 for either of those projects.

For now it would be a good idea to look into your own router if you prefer to get something now. We could be looking at the summer before the next router is launched.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

The intranet rumour is of some sort of dual-band router in the works but nothing discussed openly as NDA's will be in place and it will be in a private section of the intranet.

The Hub 2.0 is the only router for the time being.
Sky are also offering a 10 voucher for anyone looking to recycle an old or unused Hub 2.0, so if you get a 3rd party router to work you could claim this towards it's cost perhaps.

      Off Topic
They are due to start offering 10 vouchers for returning Sky+HD boxes and non-Sky+ HD boxes, and 20 vouchers for returning 1Tb or 2Tb boxes.

There's nothing about this here yet but it was put on the intranet last week.
