Lasted all yesterday afternoon and evening now back to abysmal download speeds, one test showed download of 0.69 and an upload of 1.09!
Sorry can't help you technically but I recall years ago with such bad speed my use of the Internet would be almost impossible but you are getting into the forum ok, how is the internet and web performing is it OK?
When is your switch to fibre due to take place?

      Thanks

The Internet / Web are performing slowly but when downloading or uploading the performance is near on useless.

I am trying to download a file from Sky which they state should take 2 mins at 2 Mbs, I have 23 mins to go on it, started 10 mins ago.

Has your noise margin dropped down again?

      Re: Downstream Connection Speed

The noise margin has not changed, perhaps .1 db.

I think I may have found the root cause of the problem.

On my PC that I use for uploading my website I had installed Google drive and it was starting automatically every time the computer was rebooted, once a day. Being hidden I had not realised it was actually starting and syncing, but if I stop it the speed comes back up.

Two things about this that confuse me, firstly I had only installed the drive recently, after the slow downs but it certainly affects the speeds both up and down. Secondly I would not have thought or expected something like this so dramatically affect mu broadband speeds in both directions, or is this normal?

To answer a previous question, I am hoping for my upgrade to FTTC to be completed on the 8th April, do you think I will have the same problems with this, if so what is the use of cloud storage?

      Thanks once again

      Re: Downstream Connection Speed

Something many don't realise is that if you are uploading constantly and using all your bandwidth, it will reduce your download speed. Basically, this is because when you are downloading you must also upload. This is to acknowledge the packets you have received, so if the acknowledgement for one packet is not sent quickly enough, the next packet will not be sent until it is received. This becomes very evident when someone is using torrents with an unrestricted upload. The download side can slow to a halt. Will you get this problem with Fibre? I don't think so, as you have much more bandwidth available, its unlikely. However, if it does you will have to find some way to restrict the bandwidth being used for your uploading, or restrict it to times when you are not downloading.
