      Re: Sky Router Firmware

by the way, I gave a call to Sky's technical support just earlier for my connection drops - I know I am really annoying - and the tech said something that doesn't make me happy but that could make sense..

      he said:

"quick disconnections every now and then are quite normal, especially in busy areas. in other words if I see a very quick disconnect / drop around every 20 odd days or so, that could be the fact that new users are coming onto the central or others leaving, for which a disconnection is necessary" he also said that, should the disconnection happen during a https transaction, that wont be affected since it comes back right away. (not 100% sure about that, but I never had a problem effectively).

So this would make sense since I live in Central London and IF the central where I am connected to has many things going on, users leaving etc, new connections being made, etc. I thought some of you guys that reported 3000+ hours live maybe not in a central part of town, where there would be less things going on. He also said that, if my line is perfectly stable, speed is spot on (which it is), there's not much they can do really. not a router fault either".

finally he said that if this happens more often and if the disconnection itself is longer and lasts for hours, then something is going on. true to the matter is that I never noticed the disconnection myself, it's always from the 192.168 control panel or via TBB's line monitoring tool that I see it.

so, despite the annoying fact, I need to live with it for good!

Just responding to an issue else where, but the question was raised about the use of an iPhone.

Do you happen to have one?

Also what, if any, AV software do you use?

Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

Avast on win 7, rebooted about 5 times last night.

Wife has iPhone 6 and iPad air, kids both have iPad mini 1

      Router didn't reboot just dropped

      - - - Updated - - -

I'm getting lots of time up to date and lease renewal.

Disconnects are only at night, between 9.30pm and 12pm. Now, please note that before the update my router and connection was up for around 3400 hours, so its most likely too coincidental for anything else.

Been on this firmware for sometime and not seen any problems.
What I did notice, being put on a 3db noise margin some time back, this new firmware got even more out and am running at 2.8db, whereas it was always 3.2db before.
Well assumed the firmware did that, so coincidental.
It does not seem to waver anymore and generally stays on that speed constantly.
My speedtest shows 22.5 to 23mb and 1.2 up, so maxing out with a 7-9 ping.

I have loads of devices connecting all the time, from iPhones, iPads, android phones, tablets and phablets, ip cameras, laptops, tv, sky box, chromecast, kitchen tech, sound devices and quite a bit of kit I'm testing for various companies. All using wifi mostly with a few on old clunky ethernet connections.
Have found the wifi in my house improved about 15-20% too with this firmware, especially 100 feet down the garden, but never found the sr102 to have any wifi trouble. it beats the BT hub 5, a neighbour barelys get a signal ten feet out of their back door (when their BT broadband is working, its up and down like a yoyo), and it even beats my next door neighbours virgin super hub, they lose signal about 50 feet.
Have an old 1890 victorian brick built house and brick built extension, which the wifi works so much better through than these modern builds full of metal, foil, concrete, plastic and other man made stuff.
Did hear the other day that breeze blocks are not that great to get wifi through as they tend to contain a lot of metal scraps and other materials.

nothing new here - no new firmware and I still get my usual "re-syncs" every now and then, I decided to live with it and that's it. probably as they said depends when my station adds or removes people.
