      Sky neatgear 834g router

Hi, I have a netgear 834g router and wondered if there maybe a firmware update for it?

      Its currently on V2.02.44

I've not been able to find a sky website for downloading firmware and the 834g does not do it automatically.

      Thanks
      Al

There hasn't been a new firmware released for a little while for this router. I am not sure if there will be one either, but it is possible.

Could I suggest that you see if you can get a free Sky router by applying for the Sky Wireless Booster instead? You might be sent either the Sky Hub SR101 or the Sky Hub SR102. These are both WiFi n routers.

Sky Wireless Booster - Helps extend your Wi-Fi signal even further

This offer is due to end soon, but someone did post late last week that the free router part had already expired. I was under the impression that both would run until 29th January.

The free router offer is over as far as I know. Something else will be happening next month to replace all Netgear routers.

That is good news as there can't be many of them left now.

      Re: Sky neatgear 834g router

Hi, Thanks for these. Unfortunately I've already tried the new routers.. in fact I have about 5 in the garage inc the latest white box router. They do not work as well as the netgear router I have. With the netgear I get about 3.5Mb with any of the other routers I only get 1.5Mb.

Sky have had lots of people look at this but have been unable to find a solution. They can see the line speed drop as I switch the routers around but have no idea why it does it.

      Thanks Al

      That is a great shame.

I trust that you are using the Master socket and have a filtered faceplate installed too. Did the other figures change (Line Attenuation and Noise Margin) when you swapped the router over as well?

I appreciate that I am lucky where I am. I see people with all kinds of connection speeds on the forums. I had a good 20mb connection on ADSL and my FTTC connection is the full 80/20.

According to SamKnows fibre broadband is in your area and is well worth it if your budget can extend to get it. Of course your cabinet will need to be suitably upgraded too.

      Re: Sky neatgear 834g router

Hi Scubbie, Yes I practically rewired the house trying to find the issue but failed none the less.

I looked at Fibre but Sky said I had to have their telephone rental as well. As I had just paid 12 months upfront to BT for line rental I could not do this. They suggest up to 35Mb if I switch to fibre.

I'll be talking to BT over the next few days to see if I can switch to their fibre broadband.. cheaper than Sky at the moment plus I'd get BT sport 1 and 2 which Sky lost to ESPN then BT. I'm sure my Sky bills did not go down when they cut the football coverage somewhat.

      Thanks again Al

No worries and I understand where you are coming from.

As for the price of Sky's Sports channels, no they haven't reduced in price. I guess the argument there is that they provide more than just Football.

      Re: Sky neatgear 834g router

So I changed my mind and decided to go sky fibre unlimited ! After all. I found I'd only got two months left on my bt prepay phone line rental anyway.
I got a fair deal.. I think, no activation fee and 12 months half price line rental.

Should be done in about 3 weeks I'm told. They need two weeks just to change line rental over.. I should then be getting about 35Mb.. They say the line can handle 50 Mb so I'm looking forward to getting near to Scubbie speeds, well ok maybe not quite that good. Al
