    Has MER been ditched?

This is a discussion on Has MER been ditched? within the Sky Router forums, part of the Sky Broadband help category; Good info Isitme, that does suggest using own router is not a sending off offence now. lol....

All sky fibre connections use mer.
It's the use of mer on ADSL connections that's in question.

My experience & that of others dotted around the country suggests that when an ADSL connection switches from mer to PPPoA, it often indicates the impending availability of sky fibre.

There's no official info anywhere in relation to that trend though.
(So if you've been waiting years for fibre, just switched to PPPoA & don't get it within a month, don't blame me).

I was told on the phone today by someone from Sky that you can use non-sky routers, but not all will be compatible.

      Has MER been ditched?

The terms and conditions used to state that the sky router had to be used but now they have been changed to say something like using 3rd party equipment to access the network may not work.

Why do people keep saying that, its dhcp with a Client ID

No its MER. Yes the basis of MER is DHCP with client ID but it goes beyond that

      Re: Has MER been ditched?

      No

MER isnt needed or used on FTTC just DHCP
The modem is in bridge mode and the router is using DHCP only
i fail to see where MER is coming into play
