New Sky Hub for customers with old routers

There is currently an offer for customers with old Sky Routers to get a new Sky Hub for free. I have the Sagem 2504 56Mbps so assume I qualify. I know it seems like looking a gift horse in the mouth but is there any reason not to take the offer up? Would I get any improved speed for example and are there any other benefits?

Snap it up when you can. Although it is not top of the range the new Hub is far better than the router you have at the moment.

That's great, thanks. I had a bit of trouble with the website but have now ordered it. Ironically, my internet is now playing up!

Re: New Sky Hub for customers with old routers

The wifi on my old (original 2006) router died about 3 years ago. Sky wanted 60 to send someone to look at it and possibly replace it with the same model only refurbished. Instead I bought a Belkin N+ cable router (model F5D8235-4) and just used my Sky router as a modem. The Belkin generally works well although I'm starting to get occasional drop-outs on some devices. I've now also got this offer. Am I likely to benefit? I suppose it's in the "nothing to lose category"

As you say, you have nothing to loose. If you have one of the old Netgears it is likely to fail pretty soon. The new Hub can be used in the same way if its wireless is not up to it.

Re: New Sky Hub for customers with old routers

Just received my new router and I must say I was expecting it to be an old white one. Expected them to be getting rid of old stock, much to my surprise then when I opened the box when it arrived today it was the nice new shiny black one. Lets hope fibre is run out here soon so I can get full use of it.

I guess the benefit of getting as many people on the new SR102 is any future upgrade to fibre would be seamless for the customer.

Re: New Sky Hub for customers with old routers

In another thread it has been mentioned that the Sagem 2504N has a new firmware which has IPv6 support enabled.

I am thinking that this is a nice way to get everyone onto a router which can easily support IPv6 and WiFi n at the same time, provided that a firmware for the Sky Hubs will be released to support IPv6 as well.

Also a common complaint that I see on the forums is that Sky never gives much to existing customers. I guess that this is a definite change on that side of things.

I would suggest you were mis-advised as Sky do not currently do "engineer" visits for faulty broadband routers unless you previously paid 50 for an engineer assisted broadband install (most people don't).
