Sky Hub config changes lost on reboot

Received a Sky Hub in June 2013, and re-configured it to have different SSID, password and to set wireless security on for selected devices.

While doing some electrical work in the house last weekend, I had to turn the electricity off.

When the Hub was restarted, all of my configuration info had been lost and there was no wireless at all. Had to reset and re-enter all the changes again, although I've just spotted that I can back up the settings via the 'Maintenence' tab in Admin.

Previously had a Sky Netgear router that was rebooted several times over the years and always came back up with the correct configuration.

Is there something that I've missed, or is this a 'feature' of the Hub ?

It should not loose the setting with a power off or a reboot. You do have to be careful with the Hub as it has an 'unprotected' Reset button, which will wipe the settings if pressed.

It is better to back up your settings, but make sure it works before depending on it completely. When you have put in the settings, do a backup, then make a small change to the settings, then try installing the backup to make sure it is working properly.

Personally I would be tempted to test to see if the router loses the settings again. Obviously ensure that you don't press the rest button as well.

If it does play up then I would give Sky a friendly call and arrange for a replacement Sky Hub SR101 to be sent to you.

Re: Sky Hub config changes lost on reboot

Thinking about this again, I did reset it myself !.....

The electricity was off for around 4 hours and when it came back the Hub restarted.
Only the top two lights came on, and there was no wireless capability. Consequently, my network was unavailable to the Wireless Connector or an iPad.
From a desktop, I tried to login to the Hub on 192.168.0.1 over ethernet but was unable to connect (Page not displayable).
At this point I reset the Hub to factory settings, so all of my configuration will have been lost.

I now recall that this happened when I first received the router too, in that I configured it and turned it off and lost wireless, and had to start again.

So, I guess my questions should have been........., Why was there no wireless capability after reboot ? And, how else could I get wireless back when I could not access Admin, other than by resetting ?

I will have to turn the electricity off again this week, so all (polite) suggestions gratefully received......

Re: Sky Hub config changes lost on reboot

The Sky Hub SR101 can take a couple of minutes to restart.

In this situation I would have waited 5 minutes then power cycled the router (i.e. switch off the power for ~10 seconds and try again) to give it a chance.

Failing this, log in via an Ethernet cable to see what is happening.

If it does happen again please do let us know.

Unhappy Re: Sky Hub config changes lost on reboot

      I've got the same problem
      always when the router restarts,
only the top two lights came on (POWER and INTERNET), and there was no wireless capability.
      As Scubbie said, I tried
The Sky Hub SR101 can take a couple of minutes to restart.

Failing this, log in via an Ethernet cable to see what is happening.

If it does happen again please do let us know.
but there is only one solution, revert to factory default settings by press and hold the reset button and reconfig all my settings.

Which firmware version do you have installed on the Sky Hub SR101?

If you are not sure you'll find the answer on the 'Router Status' page. Click the 'Maintenance' tab or the link below:

Re: Sky Hub config changes lost on reboot

Phooey. I was hoping that there was an issue there. You have the latest version ( 1.15j.2639.R ).

I'll get this raised to see if it is a known issue.
