DG834GT reseting itself to factory defaults?

Hi, I returned home on Monday night to discover my router had reset itself to factory defaults. The admin password was reset to "Sky" and all my port forwarding and reserved IP addresses has been removed. I know this hasn't been done by myself or anybody else in the house. We've have had problems with devices connecting wirelessly to it recently that have only been fixed by power cycling the router. The firmware appears to be the latest version (V1.04.13) but I don't know when this was updated. Is it possible that a firmware update from Sky caused the reset? Thanks.

Re: DG834GT reseting itself to factory defaults?

Sky would not have done this.

There are two things which I would consider:

      1. Someone has managed to hack your router (perhaps the WiFi passwrd was unchanged from the defaults or you were on WEP?)
      2. The router lost its power/firmware updated and the NVRAM is failing, so the settings were lost

My money would be on the 2nd choice.

The DG834GT is a few years old now. A few other members have reported them to be failing now.

There are some options available to you:

      1. Upgrade to Fibre if you are able to do so
      2. Call Sky and see if you can get a replacement router. If you commit to with Sky for a further 12 months, then they can send you the Sky Hub SR101
      3. Buy a slightly older router (than the Sky Hub) from Sky, but stay out of contract
      4. Search the likes of eBay for a replacement
      5. Choose a new provider
      6. Do nothing

      PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.
