Buying A second hand sky router?

I have just paid and bought the new sky router the white/silver router for 7.50+6p&p.

I know that is very cheap but the listing just stated its in perfect working order and only used for 5 months a long with the box micro filters ect...

The ebay guy has got 790 feedback, so I doubt he wouldn't post with me getting it cheap.

anyone will it be easy to setup to mu sky bb unlimited or will it not work at all?

I have seen a few other threads saying I will need the log in credentials for the router, but when recieved if i just stick a pin in the reset button wont it reset the login details to Username: admin and password: sky?

is it easy to set up to my bb and if so is there a simple tutorial on how to set it up to mine?

      cheers

Re: Buying A second hand sky router?

All the Sky routers come with their own log in credentials. They are unique to the router, not the customer.

I could literally take my Sky router and plug it into any other Sky Broadband connection and it would work.

You have taken the first step to securing your router by removing all the previous setting on it. I would recommend that you take the follow step too, just in case:

      • Change the router's admin password to something other than the default 'sky'
      • Change the WiFi settings. Specifically the SSID (Wireless name) and Wireless Password. Leave the security on WPA2-AES

Otherwise everything should work just fine.

Also, from your description, it sounds like you have the Sagem 2504N.

The best way to position this router is to place it on its edge, as show in the right-hand router in the picture above, This aids the cooling effect and helps the router to last longer.

no I have bought the latest one.

So as soon as I receive it, I should reset to factory settings, then log into the router using admin and sky as the password and username.

then change my log in password I.E. sky then also change the wep key as well?

      cheers

That's the SR101, but what Scubbie says hold true. The only silver on it is the Sky logo.

      Thanks Tom

As for the "WEP Key", things have moved on a little. WPA, WPA+WPA2 and WPA2 use a different password system that is much easier to use. WPA2 is the default on the Sky Hub SR101 and is the most secure currently.

Check out our guides here for more information: Sky Hub SR101
