Cannot restore settings on router - "Restore Failure"

      Hi Folks.

I noticed recently that the option to "Restore Settings" no longer works, and trying to work out why. When I try to restore I get the message "Restore Failure", and wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows a solution?

The router I have is the BSkyB Netgear DG934G, and uses the firmware version of V2.02.44. My OS is Windows 7 Pro.SP1 with all updates. I use MS Security Essentials for my Antivirus.

I started creating router settings backups back in March 2010, and have been able to restore at different points through the years, but no clue when it stopped working. Here are some of the things I have tried and tested:

      - I use Firefox as my default browser, but also tested using IE and Chrome with all plugins disabled in each.
      - I have a spare Sky router of exact same make, model, and firmware.
      - I reset both routers back to factory settings.

Does anyone have any ideas why the restore of settings to the router might now be failing?

      Thanks.

If you save settings now can you use the backup file produced to restore settings?

Good question, but no. And I have tried doing that with my settings in place, and also with the router at factory default.

Re: Cannot restore settings on router - "Restore Failure"

Just tried again this morning, and noticed this is the router log:

      Fri, 2013-07-05 09:19:01 - <Restore Setting> [90105] "NTP Server" fail!

But typically I cannot find any info on what this might mean?

Lightbulb Re: Cannot restore settings on router - "Restore Failure"

Just for the record, I found a solution.

In my last update I spotted the following error in the router security log:

      Fri, 2013-07-05 09:19:01 - <Restore Setting> [90105] "NTP Server" fail!

So I checked my "NTP Server" router settings, and compared those to the settings backup file. Both router and file checked out fine, but found the following:

      [90104]"Use this NTP Server"=0
      [90105]"NTP Server"=0.europe.pool.ntp.org

So this means the router had an entry for what appears to be a custom NTP server, but was not actually using it. This is strange, as I have never touched this setting!. So I edit the backup file lines to read as:

      [90104]"Use this NTP Server"=0
      [90105]"NTP Server"=

And now the settings restore fine.

      Thanks everyone.
