      f@st2504n menus really sluggish

      Hi!

Yesterday I tried to assign a fix internal ip to my NAS using the router's advanced menu (Lan ip setup). I found the device in the list and assigned ip 192.168.0.10 to it. Router reboots... and the operation did not work. The NAS still has an automatically allocated ip (in my case 192.168.0.8) and to top it off, the browsing of the router's menu has become extremely slow.

      1) why didn't the assigned ip get assigned? Should I have assigned a specific ip to every device manually (including the router itself) and then disabled DHCP?

      2) why is the browsing of the router's menus now slow? Even stays slow if I get rid of the non-functioning ip allocating rule and revert to previous settings...

First of all did you reboot or disconnect then reconnect the NAS? Its address will not change until you do so.

If you did not restart the NAS you may be getting something like an IP conflict where the router knows it should be giving the NAS a specific address but it cannot do so because it already has one. This may account for the slowness.

Cheers for the quick reply, mate. I did not reboot the NAS indeed, and this will probably explain that.

Do I have to assign a specific ip to every device manually (including the router itself) and then disable DHCP for it to work properly, or can I keep DHCP on and just set one rule (if I only want the NAS to have its specific internal ip)?

You don't have to give everything its own address, just the devices you want. DHCP will handle the rest.
