      834gt to sky 834gt

I have a dg834gt router which I love, is it possible to put sky's firmware on to it so I don't have to go through the extraction process on my sky hub also will the dg834gt work with MER?

      Many thanks for any replys

      Re: 834gt to sky 834gt

I think that there is a copy of the Sky firmware for the DG834GT somewhere, but you will need some login details to get it working. Normally you would use the DG834GT's details to do this. I am not sure if it will work with a non-Sky version's details.

Apart from the WiFi Extender feature, the Sky Hub SR101 does everything the DG834GT can do. In some cases it also does things better.

The DG834GT only supports WiFi speeds up to 108mb/s, whereas the Sky Hub SR101 supports 144mb/s.

Both support 100mb LAN. The DG834GT is several years old and some members are finding that their routers are dying.

Sure the GUI is different, but it isn't that unfriendly.

Does a sky dg834gt work with MER? As I have just found a cheap one on eBay.

I like using router stats and knowing how many errors I am geting and I also like that I can adjust the target snr if I wanted

Yes the latest firmware for the DG834GT files support both MER and PPPoA ln Sky connection.

Sure you can't see the CRC errors. When helping to diagnose an issue this would be useful, but most people don't need this.

As for adjusting the SNR, the latest DLM software used by Sky does a very good job. There have been some additional developments which have improved it further since the major update 1 year ago. This should help to ensure that you no longer need to tweak the connecting.

If the router hasn't been updated for a while will it auto update?

You can see the crc errors and the bit loading using the program routerstats

If you are on Connect it will not matter what router you use, you will still have a rubbish service.

BT ADSLMax, which you will be using does not use MER, so you have nothing to worry about there. I also doubt if you will be able to tweak the SNR, as the BT system will not allow it. The updated DLM Scubbie is referring to only operates on Sky LLU, ie, Lite and Unlimited.

      Re: 834gt to sky 834gt

If the GT you have your eye on is a Sky one and it connects to your line, it will update itself in time. If you are on MER at the moment and don't have PPPoA available, that may be a problem as it will not connect. Even the latest Netgear firmware will not connect to Sky's MER and I don't think the DGTeam firmware which I run will allow it either. The chances are even if you are on MER at the moment, PPPoA will also be available to you. More and more of Sky's MER connections are being reverted to PPPoA.

If I were you I would get your username and password from the Hub and use it on the GT you have. I would also recommend using 3rd party firmware such as DGTeam, which opens up many more possibilities.

      Re: 834gt to sky 834gt

The old dg934 I have connected fine (lower line speed mind you) so PPOA must still be active, the other reason I want to use the dg834gt is the Broadcom BCM6348 chipset which is still by far the best chipset for adsl2/LLU lines

      Re: 834gt to sky 834gt

The SR101 has the Broadcom 6362 chipset, which is a far more advanced chip than the 6348.
