How are you trying to connect remotely?

Are you on the same LAN or using 3G, for example?

Could you try the following for now:

Set up a reserved IP Address for it on you router

Ask you iPod app to use the LAN IP address in the app.

If this works, try using the app vis the app 3G network to connect.

Let me know how you get on.

      Re: swann dvr

Could you try setting up a port forwarding from the router to the cameras and try again please?

Don't disable the UPnP or adjust any further settings on the cameras.

      thanks scubbie
i'll give it a try later -way to tired at the moment to get my head round this
one more thing i can now get the cameras on my pc and laptop but only using the netview software supplied with the cameras (this gave me" login failure" before i reserved the ip address) IE and firefox both refuse to open page IE reports that the devices refused the connection
do i need to have a static ip for remote internet connection to work ? the manual seems to suggest that i do
or at least use their own dynamic dn service but i cant change this in the router i can only get the dynadns which isnt free anymore

      Re: swann dvr

There are a few items, including my IP Cameras, which I have given fixed IP Addresses. This is because when I use the browser in my home, the username and password can be remembered.

By using UPnP you should not need to have a fixed IP Address and you should not need to set up a port forwarding rule. Experience has taught me that it is better for the reasons described above for the IP Address. The port forwarding rule is something new and hopefully temporary if it works.

As for DynDNS - yes it is annoying that you now need to give over your credit card details. You can cancel the subscription though and thus prevent being charged.

I use a DynDNS address in my phone's app as it doesn't accept the IP Cameras' Dynamic addresses.

Quick note: If anyone else is experiencing a similar issue with their Sky routers, could you post up whether the above has helped or not, also which model router you are using and the firmware version.

      Re: swann dvr

well this has got me completely baffled
ive set up the port forward as you suggested ,i think i did it right but it made no difference ,i also got the dynamic DNS service up and running both the router and the DVR test successfully but this has made no difference
i have no real idea what ip address im supposed to use for each device
i can access the cameras via the iphone and PC but only on my home network
also this morning the iphone wouldn't connect ,it turns out that the lan ip address for the DVD had changed even though i set it to be reserved !
