      Collision Pkts

Hey all, I've noticed that I have 467 Collision Pkts reported in my connection status for the Sky Hub SR101. What causes it? I feel it may be the reason I'm having some streaming issues on the Apple TV Youtube App. Thanks.

When two devices transmit at or near the same time such that the packets overlap and therefore are received corrupted. In this situation each device will wait for a random interval before retransmitting the packet concerned.

That explains why my Apple TV kept freezing the other day when it was streaming via youtube when people were accessing the wireless.

Just a heads up but I think that my Apple TV is causing the collisions as I have just played a few hours of Xbox 360 with no collisions being recorded. Must be something when streaming between the MBP and Apple TV.

Does it make any difference if Apple TV is connected wirelessly or using network cable?

Wireless is my only option as I'm in a bedroom with the Apple TV. It doesn't noticably effect the performance of the item, everything still streams fine.

Can try on the TV in the living room though when parents go away.

Your wi-fi signal doesn't extend to the bedroom then? I'm wondering if the NIC on the Apple TV only operates in half duplex mode as I have been doing some experiments with a PC connected to a busy router and changing the configuration between full and half duplex. Run for over an hour in full duplex with zero collisions. Changed to half duplex and had 24 a few minutes later.

      Re: Collision Pkts

Error in the previous post, was meant to say wireless and not wired. We have good coverage round the entire house. Sky Hub covers front half and DG934G covers back half. The DG934G acts as a WiFi extension using Scubbies guides.
