tbh I have never had an issue with the wireless on the 2504n - Initial reports re the SR101 was that the wireless was indeed better than the 2504n, but as people can see, those who have bought the SR101 since release are not really confirming that the wireless is better.

      Re: Sky SR101 vs Sagem F@ST 2504n

Have to say I am somewhat disappointed with the SR101. My teenage son is off school with chickenpox and he has had to reboot it on a number of occasions as it was dropping out. Having got back from work I have returned to the 2504n as it is definitely more stable. I also think the wireless signal is better!
I am hoping that when I have fibre installed on Thursday, the teething problems I am experiencing will come to an end. We shall see!

Strange. Looking at the speedtest result that you posted a couple of weeks back, the router should of definitely coped.

Without looking at the connection stats, it would be hard to know if the problem was caused by your line, the router's ADSL Modem or something else.

Thanks, Scubbie! I guess I will find out on Thursday. If the SR101 continues to act in an unstable manner, I will simply continue to use the Sagem.

      Re: Sky SR101 vs Sagem F@ST 2504n

It may not be possible to use the Sagem 2504N on the Fibre connection.

There are two firmwares for the Sagem 2504N. One is for an ADSL connection only, the other is suitable for both Fibre and ADSL.

If you can navigate to the 'WAN Setup' page under the 'Advanced' tab on the router, you may or may not see an option entitled 'Router Mode'. If this is present, then the Sagem 2504N can be used as the main router to connect you via the Fibre connection.

One member has managed to update their Sagem 2504N to support the Fibre firmware, but I understand that it was difficult.

An alternative option would be to piggyback the Sagem onto the Sky Hub for an extra WiFi hotspot. Unfortunately you will need to configure the Sagem now whilst you have an ADSL connection as some members have reported that the Sagem 2504N doesn't keep its settings unless it is connected.

My fibre was installed on Thursday. The SR101 is now more stable but I am but I am not that impressed with its wireless range. Still feel that the 2504n had better range.

      Re: Sky SR101 vs Sagem F@ST 2504n

Unfortunately for us, the saying "you get what you pay for" is extremely applicable in this instance. As long as we are either being given a free initial router or paying a mere 39 for a replacemwent, we will be given rubbish.

      Indeed.

It would be quite a task to develop a Hub that performed as poorly as VM's, regrettably named, superhub.

By ignoring it's shortcomings and continuing to issue it to so many subscribers, VM find themselves in an inescapably deep hole.

Typically they continue digging with persistent, albeit infrequent, firmware upgrades that invariably break as many items as they purport to fix.

The only redeeming feature of the superhub, due entirely to a mighty subscriber outcry, is the addition of a dedicated modem mode thus making it a trivial job for the subscriber to use their choice of a router that actually works as expected. Sky should take note.

Similar story here, if the SR101 has better Wireless coverage then I'm Brad Pitt.

Looks nicer in the hallway than the 2504n though.
