Self sourced routers on Sky BB

I did read somewhere in this forum of the possibility that we may soon have Sky's blessing to use self sourced routers on Sky ADSL.

Would someone please confirm if that is now the case.

Not heard anything, but to be honest with Sky's authentication by router and not by user, I can't see how this could happen. I suppose if they were prepared to give you the details when your Sky router was plugged in, it could happen, but I doubt it.

I'm still on PPPoA and hoping that will remain the case as my phone calls/line rental are not done through Sky. If I understand correctly, router authentication is a function of MER.

It does not matter what you are on, PPPoA or MER, the connection has still got to be authenticated, using the routers username and password. Other ISPs use a different method whereby your username and password are unique to you, not the router, so it is easy to use any router you wish. For example TakTalk use your phone number as the username and the password can be chosen by the user. BT, Plusnet etc., use something like your email address with an allocated password which can be changed.
