Sky Router playing up, worth upgrading to a new Sky one?

I've been on Sky broadband since about 2005 and have the Sky supplied Netgear 834GT router, but its started playing up and loses connection but not just to the internet but the whole network even though the status is local access and I can't even access the router and have to do a hard reset to get it going again, so I thought it might be time to upgrade to a new Wireless N router (the netgear is b/g), but finding specs isn't easy.

      1. Is it stable/reliable?
      2. Is it 10/100/1000 (gigabit)? as with media streaming and gigabit switches it'll be a bit daft me getting a none-gigabit router.

      Cheers

The current router sky are issuing is the Sagem 2504n. This was ok for me for a while with my fibre connection. It never lost the connection and the wireless was fine for my flat it did/does however have a very slow interface.

Sky have also got a new router but only a few have it. Its called the Sky Hub SR101 and has more of a wireless range than the Sagem. There is a thread here to have a read up. http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-n...hub-sr101.html.

However, both of these routers only have 10/100 ports in them. As you have a gigabit network setup it may be worth spending your money on a higher spec'd non-sky router. You will need to extract your username and password from you current router and check what type of authentication your line uses (either PPPoA or MER) and get a router that can deal with both.

Im sure Scubbie will be along shortly and she or perhaps others can guide you on what router would be a good fit or you could hunt through the forum for some more info

Cheers, shame about no gigabit ports - I've also been looking at the Netgear DGN3500 for 10 more than the Sky one and that does have Gigabit as well as 300Mbps wireless so might just get that. If the new sky one had been free or a tenner I'd have done without the gigabit ports but if I have to pay around the same price I'd rather get a better one.
