Sky sent me a new router...

I've been a Sky Broadband customer since February 2011. I have the D-Link DSL-2640S and it's been fine. Wireless is disabled as I have an Apple Time Capsule doing this job

Sky called me yesterday, trying to sell me sports and movies, and at the end of the conversation said they'd send me their new router, for no apparent reason! The new router is the latest Sagemcom F@st 2504n. Is there any point in swapping over to this router if I won't use its wireless, or should I just keep it as a spare?

id say keep as a spare but check they have not extended your contract. Why else would they just give new routers out randomly?

Re: Sky sent me a new router...

That's what I thought, especially when customers with genuinely faulty routers have trouble getting out of warranty replacements. But on the letter I got with it, it reads: "Sorry that you've been having trouble with your broadband. We hope your new Sky Broadband router will help sort things out."

There was definitely no mention of extending the contract, just a casual "we're going to send you our new router".

In which case I would keep that for future. The written word cannot be contested

"Sorry that you've been having trouble with your broadband.
If you didn't report you had problems then it is p0ossble the have mixed you up with another user. Some poor sod somewhere is probably waiting on a reply to his complaint.
