Sky Broadband Router, what is your link connection speed? 65-72 Mbps normal?

      hi there guys,

i have a very simple question, i have 2 PCs, a newer HP Pavilion dv6-6b51ea and an Asus netbook N10J of a few years ago, both connected via wireless with the Sky Sagemcom F@ST2304, Firmware Version 5.14.6.1a4N, ADSL Firmware Version A2pD030n.d23b.

as far as i see, the HP connects at 65-72 Mbps variable and i cannot get it to connect at a higher speed (tried various drivers) while the small Asus manages to connect at 130 Mbps so it appears faster.

the interesting thing is that lets say 6 months ago, the asus was connecting at 65 Mbps too, then i upgraded drivers and boom it went at 130 Mbps.

so my question is, does this relate to the very Sky Router, if i am not wrong i read somewhere that is not exactly a "real" N class router, or is it related to the wireless card i have on the HP? according to intel is rated up to 300Mbps > Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 Product Brief.

      thanks guys
      Gabrio

Re: Sky Broadband Router, what is your link connection speed? 65-72 Mbps normal?

      Thread moved as requested.

The limits you are experiencing are because of the Router you have, not the WiFi adaptors.

The Sagem 2304n works at up to 72mbps on a single channel.

In order to get your Asus to connect at up to 130mbps you would need to use it on a router which uses paired channels. This is also the case for an adaptor which works at up to 300mbps. 65mbps is the correct speed for the Asus on a single channel.

Please take a look at the graph in the thread linked below for a little more information:

The only way to change this would be to get a router or WiFi extender which works at say 300mbps.

      hi there

so i guess there's a bit of mistery since the Asus, on the same modem, connects at 130 Mbps (is it connecting on paired channels?)... but only after i upgraded drivers many months ago...

if the max speed of the router is 72 Mbps then my HP computer is doing fine i guess..

      thanks

No problem. inSSIDer is a tool often recommended on this forum by various people. It helps people to gain a lot of useful information.

inSSIDer should show that the router's max connection speed is 72mbps. If it is 144mbps then you have the Sagem 2504N, not the Sagem 2304n.

Ok so here's something interesting i just ran inSSIDer on both PCs, and they both report 72 Mbps for my home network with the Sagem 2304..

so i guess that the Asus erroneously shows link speed of 130 Mbps in the windows' link properties page..but in reality is connected at 72 Mbps...weird though.

      thanks again

      ciao!
