      VPN over Sky Sagem router

Thanks to all those who have been helping me find a solution to the VPN issues.

Currently I use a DGN2200 but if Sky get their way, this may go at any time.

Okay, I have been looking at the FVS318 and thought about the following set up.

PLease let me know if this will work:

ADSL SOCKET: Sagem F@ST 2504 (DMZ on and Wireless b/g off, DHCP off) (ISP MUST HAVE) --> FVS318 DHCP on --> DGN2200 (DHCP OFF, WIRELESS n ON, NAT and FIREWALL DISABLED).

      Sagem on 192.168.0.1
FVS on 192.168.0.3 (DHCP .04 upwards)
      DGN2200 on 192.168.0.2

To ensure I get utmost security with any plugged in devices is it the FVS318 and DGN2200 that I can plug into with other LAN devices?

Why not have a FVS wireless I hear you ask? -PRICE!

In theory the FVS318 and DGN2200 should both work as switches. If the firewall is enabled on the FVS318 then plugging into either should be exactly the same as the DGN2200 will only be acting as a switch!

      I think

So plugging into Sky router would ne suicidal as the DMZ is in place so no firewall?

Also on reading the FVS manual my only concern is that it may ask for username and password for sky and that is what I am trying to avoid.

Do you mean you are worried about the FVS or other devices plugged in? Provided the FVS has a firewall and you connect everything behind that then you should be fine.

As for the username and password I would have thought thats only if you are using the acually as the ADSL modem. You are using the sky router as the modem so should also be fine there. The FVS might need some configuring, it will probably need to be in bridge mode

I thought that you had managed to get your DGN2200 to connect directly to your connection?

I have but would like to look at a more long term solution with the introduction of MER.

Re: VPN over Sky Sagem router

I that case, until such time that Sky allow other manufacturers to utilise their MER system within their routers, the only working solution I can suggest would be to use a Cable router.

By connecting the Sky router 1st, and connecting the Cable router via it's LAN WAN Port, and placing the Cable router in the Sky router's DMZ, you would bypass the Sky router entirely. This would mean that the Sky router would remain connected, but it should work. See this thread for more information on setting up the router:

Is that not what I am effectively doing with the FVS?

      I need VPN.
