      N Router & B+G devices

      Hi,

My new SKY N router is about to land and have a couple of questions. N is backwards compatible with the B&G protocols but if I had N devices and G devices sharing this router would the speeds be the best possible for each device or would the slowest device govern the fastest speed?

If so I'm thinking of either hanging my current G router off the N one, would this work or should I run both together?

I may not have explained this correctly but any advice would be appreciated.

      J

The default setting enables the WiFi n speed of 144mb/s. Whoever wrote the firmware didn't set it up so that you can only have WiFi n devices, so you cannot disable WiFi b or WiFi g. You can however slow it down to only work with WiFi b & g speeds.

However, none of this is necessary. You should be perfectly able to connect two device (or more) where one is connecting on a WiFi g adaptor at no more than 54mbps and the other is connecting at 72mbps or higher with it's WiFi n adaptor.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
