      Hello Again,
I have recieved my router today, i opened the box and had a look at the router, it is a plain grey router, the box that it came in has a label on saying Sagemcom f@st 2504N sky, so it looks like i have got the correct router.
I have not got the time to set it up at the moment, i will probably do it on boxing day, i will let you know how i go on.

It certainly does sound like you have the Sagem 2504N. Rather than grey, it is described as 'Silver' normally.

As for setting it up, unless you have any custom settings, it should be a plug-in & use job. The WiFi key will need to be entered on any WiFi devices, but that should be relatively easy.

      Have a lovely Christmas day.

      Re: 2504N Router

      Hello again,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas day.
I have setup my new router, i have put the router next to my desktop computer upstairs and connected it wired, it is running at 100Mbps, i then setup my laptop down stairs, but that is still only running at 54Mbps, i have a Belkin N utility card pluged into my laptop, i can't undestand why it is only running at 54Mbps, i tried taking it upstairs next to the router but it does not make any difference.
Does anyone have any idea what i have done wrong.
      Hope someone can help.
      Thanks Ross Anthony.

      Re: 2504N Router

You would be better ringing. I don't think you had problems with your previous router so the new one should be syncing at about the same speed. If it has not something has gone wrong. You could also post your stats.

With regards your wireless speed, have a look at the wireless settings and see if there is an N setting. There probably is not as they seem to have made a right mess of the N routers firmware. Try setting it to auto first and if that does not help try the highest available, probably 54g performance or something like that.

      Re: 2504N Router

      Hello Isitme,
      My stats say
      Connection speed Download Upload
      578db 640db
      Line Attenuation 46.5db 27.1db

      Noise Margin 7.3db 9.5db

The cannel mode is set on 54g Auto ( current cannel 11)

I tried rebooting the router the stats now read

      Connection Speed Download Upload
      571db 625db

      Line Attenuation 46.5db 27.1db

      Noise Margin 7.7db 9.5db

I dont know if this is any help.

      Thanks Ross Anthony.

      Hello everyone,
If i need to ring Sky about my router speed, what is the best telephone number to ring.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas.
I am going away for three days, so i will see what people have suggested when i get back.

      Thanks to you all again.

      Re: 2504N Router

A friendly phone call to Sky will be required, but before doing that, you may wish to see if you can improve things at your end.

The Line Attenuation indicates that you should get more than 6mb, but the noise margin indicates that you do not have sufficient room to improve things that much.

Could you check that your internal wiring is not interfering with the connection again please? If possible can you plug the router into the Test Socket?

Whilst using the Test Socket, double check that any other extension is dead.

Also, please use the short grey ADSL lead supplied with the router and no extensions.

Post the stats so that we can see if there is an improvement.

      Re: 2504N Router

ive had three of these routers, they are now all paper weights.

none of them give any decent wireless N connections no matter how close you are.
none of them give a stable connection or true speed
all of them disconnect within 30 minutes of being plugged in.

tried everything and anything and nothing works. even with sky changing profiels, settings, checking the line etc etc etc.

back to the wireless G version with no issues.

so id give up and get a refund. then go by a proper wireless N router and extract your username and password from your old router.

      will work 10 times better.

Apart from what Scubbie suggests, I would plug in your old router and check what it syncs at. If you get your old sync back, call Sky and tell them they have supplied you with a duff router and explain why you know. You want your money refunded or a replacement router that works properly.
