Need idiot guide on replacing old router with new sagemcom 2504N

I have been given a brand new Sagemcom 2504N sky router by somebody who didn't need it.

My old sagem sky router has been rubbish since I got it around a year ago because the wireless signal only reaches about 6 foot away. Sky will not help and have recommended that I buy a new router from them. Well, now I don't need to buy one!

I want to use the new router as I think it may give better wireless covereage. Is this possible?

If it is possible to use this new router, please could somebody tell me in very simple way, step by step, how to do this.

      Thanks.

Simple follow the small guide supplied in the router or you can click on the link below:

Sky Broadband | A video guide on how to set up your Sky router

Essentially it should be a simple case of unplugging the leads from your old router and plugging in the new one. I would swap the PSU over though, but it may not make much difference.

If you use WiFi, then the new pass key / password will be on the underside of the router and on the card supplied with the router.

Re: Need idiot guide on replacing old router with new sagemcom 2504N

If the router details has been registered with Sky, as Scubbie says, just unplug the old and plug in the new, apart from your network key there is nothing to set up.

I have been given a brand new Sagemcom 2504N sky router by somebody who didn't need it.
If he/she has taken the username and password from this router to use on their own router with Sky, there may be a problem if the server picks up two routers using the same login details. It is nothing to worry about as if you do get a problem ask your friend to extract the username and password from your router and use them on his own. You can them safely use the new router.

I don't know if this new router is registered with Sky. It was sent as the person was going to go with sky but cancelled before it started and went to another company. Apparently Sky didn't want the router back! Will this make a difference?

Thanks for your help so far

You should be fine to just plug it in.

Re: Need idiot guide on replacing old router with new sagemcom 2504N

Thanks for your advice. I connected the router and it works. It gives a slightly better range than the old one but I'm glad I didn't pay 35 for the small improvement!

I asked questions about this topic on the sky forum and was told by sky that the router would probably be barred because it would be classed as inactive. Is it likely that it may stop working soon if they bar it?

It'll be fine unless it's suspended in the near future, which I doubt. Either way, if you ever see a solid amber internet light (the @ symbol), call Sky and check if the router has been suspended. If so, then just ask them to unsuspend it. Simple.

Amazing, Sky don't have enough of these to send out to genuine customers and literally throw one away.

Thanks for your help. I'm pleased that it was so easy to do.

I'll just forget it now and hope that it doesnt get suspended.

Re: Need idiot guide on replacing old router with new sagemcom 2504N

The reality is that Sky very rarely suspends a router.

From what I have read on hear previously, they would normally suspend a specific router on an account that is bad (i.e. bills unpaid).

Since this router was never connected previously to a Sky BB line, it will not be associated with any account and you should not have an issue.
