      losing connection

      Hi all

I have a Sagem F@ST 2504, but over the past few weeks, its been losing connection, more so when i have mutiple items down loading,, anything over 2 items,
when i check the network connection it says i have no defalt gateway, the only way for me to get reconnected is to restart my pc then it picks it back up,,

I made a call to sky and they say my line is ok, i have changed the filter and all seemd ok BUT it happend again prior to me posting this.

any help or ideas, or could the router be on its way out ??

      Re: losing connection

Could you please post your router's stats?

Include the complete stats page please so that we can see the router's connection times as well.

Could you confirm how you are connected to the router please? (i.e. WiFi, Ethernet cable, HomePlugs, etc.)

Finally can you describe how your router is connected to your telephone line and what else you have connected to it please? (i.e. any extensions, which socket is where, if you have an NTE5 socket, filtered faceplate or microfilters)

      Re: losing connection

Looking at the screen dump it is possible to see that you router has been powered up for the last 18:20 hours, but that 6:24 minutes ago your Internet connection was lost.

Your connection stats are good for your line and you haven't lost any connection speed.

I am thinking along the lines of the following, but am unsure:

      1. it is an intermittent line fault that DLM hasn't picked up yet
      2. the Sagem 2504 PSU is failing
      3. the Sagem 2504 router is failing

Personally I would opt to rule out #2 first. If you have a spare PSU rated the same, could you plug it in to see if the problem re-occurs?

In the mean time, I would encourage you to extract the Sky log in details from the router. See the link below:

      https://www.cm9.net/skypass/

Copy & paste the details from your router to the generator & then copy the results to a Notepad text file.

This is in case you wish to use your own non-Sky router. If the router does fail then you wont be able to do it afterwards.

      Re: losing connection

Your internet is shown as being up for nearly 6 and half hours, so it looks like the problem may be between your PC and the router. A few things you could try -
Change the port you are using in the router.
Check the manufacturers site for the latest drivers for your LAN adapter, download and install them. Don't take any notice of Windows if it says you have the latest ones.
Download and run Malwarebytes and delete anything it suggests. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

No i sadly dont have a spare psu

I have done new drivers, also did a scan with malware and that picked up nothing.

Just seems strainge that if i start more than two items to download somthing it loses the gateway..

      Re: losing connection

      Hi Tom,

It is the WAN connection that dropped. Would a computer's LAN port affect this?

Anti-Malware is always endoresable, but I am not aware of any that would disconnect the WAN port on the router, but this is always a possibility. This being the case, a complete check over for anything malicious on the computer might be a good idea.

Did you use the app I recommended, it will find things others can't, especially the ones built into AV suites. It is important to realise that it is your PC that is loosing the gateway, not the router. Change the port and try another ethernet cable if you have one.

The WAN has been up for 6 hours Scubbie, not 6 minutes.
