      Replacement Sky Router

      Hi,
My sky router has recently stopped working,
And i was looking for a replacement sky router on eBay,
The question is if i purchased a sky router from eBay would it work on my line,
Or is each router user specific ? ,
Would i be able to just buy it plug it in and go.
      Thanks any help
      Liam.

best thing to do mate is ring sky and get them to send a replacement dont use your own as it can be risky but it can be complicated if your a non techie geek

      Re: Replacement Sky Router

The question is if i purchased a sky router from eBay would it work on my line,
Short answer, yes, routers are not specific to users.

Longer answer, probably, provided a) it has not been cracked and running standard firmware, in which case you would have to obtain and enter the username and password or return it to Sky firmware. Or b) The routers MAC address has not been blacklisted for some reason. Or c) The router is not faulty.

It would be a lot cheaper than paying Sky 28 or 35 for one

It is a bit early to see these available on eBay. They are not even available on line from Sky yet. I don't want to put you off, but if it has not been scanned into Sky's data base, it will not connect. Get an assurance from the seller that it will connect to Sky. Remember you can buy one with a guarantee from Sky for 35pp.

      Re: Replacement Sky Router

Would any Sky router actually work as Liam is on Connect & surely some of the unchangeable settings are going to be different?

      Re: Replacement Sky Router

There is no difference in the settings of the router. The only difference with Connect is where it is connected at the exchange. The password and username are generated in the same way, the encapsulation, the Virtual Path and Circuit are the same, as is the multiplex.

      Re: Replacement Sky Router

      Hi Liam89,

Your router is account specific so if you bought a new router from ebay it would not work.

Has your router stopped working completey or does it work sometimes?

Also have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps? If not click on this link.

      Thanks.
