What you can use depends on your laptop.
If you have a mini PCI slot then this would do
      [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WN861N-Wireless-Mini-Adapter/dp/B0017YHYFM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1313673557&sr=8-3"]TP-Link TL-WN861N Wireless N Mini PCI Adapter: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

With a PCMIA slot you could use this-
      TP-Link TL-WN811N 300Mbps Wireless N Cardbus Adaptor - TL-WN811N - CCL Computers

An express card slot will let you use something like this-
      [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B001QER6CO/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1"]Amazon.co.uk: Customer Reviews: Belkin N Wireless Expresscard[/ame]

Some of the USB adapters available now are very small and hardly stick out much more than an inch.

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST2504 N router - pics

What I'll do tonight when I'm back home is I'll take some pictures of my laptop's express card slot, then I'll be able to show what type it is.

I've looked at a USB one in Argos:

Buy Netgear N150 Wireless USB Adapter at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Wireless peripherals and adaptors.

      If I did go for a USB type, would I need a N150 or a N300 type.

Thanks for the help it's much appreciated.

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST2504 N router - pics

I replaced the mini pci card on one of my Sony laptops about three weeks ago. It originally had the Intel 3945ABG and I replaced this with a brand new Intel 4965AGN.

The new card has got wireless N and supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. All that for 11 quid delivered.

Unlike one of my Dell laptops which had a separate compartment for the wireless card which could be accessed by removing just one screw I had to take the whole bottom case of the Sony laptop apart.

The screws were quite small but I had the right tools for the job. I had to remove about 15 screws before the bottom lid came off.

Overall I don't think it took more then 6-7 minutes.

If you go to your device manager and copy paste the exact model of your wifi card along with your laptop make and model we might be able to assist further.

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST2504 N router - pics

Well after taking the two Laptops apart (well just a cover on the older one) I can now confirm the following:

The older Laptop has Wireless Mini PCI Adaptor, so I will be looking at that link. I really ought to get the keyboard repaired on this laptop first though.

It looks as though my newer Laptop has a Wireless PCI Express Mini Card. Just to confirm, this card is only 3cm across.

I'll search at a later date for a suitable 300mbps card since I had an expensive but great few days last weekend .

At least Toshibas are a lot easier to open up than HPs.

When I go to device manager the following is shown:

      Intel(R) PRO/wireless 3945ABG network connection

The make and model of my laptop is Toshiba Satellite A300-1J1.

Here's some pictures I have took of the Express Card slot on the above mentioned laptop.

This is what is in the express card slot now (I put this on to show the shape etc of the express card opening)

I placed the plastic template that is in the express card slot now against the ruler to show the width of what I believe the card would need to be to fit into the connector

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST2504 N router - pics

That's a standard Express Card socket. Something like what is show in this review would plug in there:

      Linksys Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N ExpressCard WEC600N Review - Adapters/NICs - CNET Reviews

However you will have a WiFi adaptor which may be reachable without removing too much from your Laptop.

The attached pictures shows the cover over the WiFi adaptor of one of my laptops. In order to access the other I had to remove the whole case.

I've had a look under the various access panels on the laptop, but the three that are there, are for the hard drive, RAM. When I remove the third one, all I can see is part of the circuit board inside the laptop, there are no connectors there.

Could you post a photo of the 3rd one?

The Laptop I photographed for you also has the three covers (Hard Drive, RAM & WiFi adaptor).

The blue circuit board in the 2nd photo above is the WiFi controller card. It is plugged into the grey connector.

NB: I've blanked out the serial number & bar code on purpose.

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST2504 N router - pics

I've had another look, there is some plastic film/membrane? which has 3-4 screws holding it in place, even after removing the screws, the plastic is still stuck in place. When I manage to pull it up partly, there is nothing underneath, apart from the green circuit board, there are no chips or anything like that, its basically what the non component side of a circuit board looks like.
