      Hello,
      I am a newbie.
Just ordered the new Sagem wireless N router.
Tried to haggle but as I recently cancelled my TV package and bought a Humax Freesat+ box I couldn't get any deals despite being quite hard-nosed about it.

I want to increase my wireless range but I am dissapointed that the new box will only be 130n rather than 300n.
Will post later when installed and running.

I phoned Sky to ask for a new wireless n router. I 've been with Sky since the year dot and I have an old Netgear DG834, which I've had to rig up with a second router to get a decent wireless signal with my wireless n equipment. I was told I'd have to pay the 35. I refused on the grounds that I don't have any choice about how to spend that 35 according to Sky's T & Cs. I then sent them a letter stating this. I felt the equipment they had provided me with was not fit for purpose any more. After all, when my sky tv box couldn't do Anytime+ they just relaced it, no quibbles. A few days later I got a phone call from, let's say a Sky Call centre, saying they had received my letter saying I wanted a new router and could they have my card details so they could send me one! I registered my surprise that a letter of complaint (which someone didn't seem to realise it was!)should be responded to in this way, and not in writing. The skin was thick. I continue to be confounded by Sky's Customer service.

people shouldnt be complaining about 35 quid for a n router jeese. it could be worse if you want the best router with everything on it your talking 80 to 200 quid then you have to retrieve the user name and password in your sky router as well as configuring it.

      Hi,

When ordering for 35, do you need to specifically ask for the 2504N (rather than the 2304N) or is "new wireless N router" enough to ask for?

Just a bit worried I might get sent the 2304N

      Thanks

Ask for and emphasise that you want the Sagem 2504N and no other will be acceptable. If you are then sent the wrong one you can kick up a fuss.

Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

I've just phoned up to order the N router. The bloke actually told me I could have it for free

Me - Oh, really? How come. I thought it was 35?

Sky bloke - The system lets us choose if we charge the customer or not, and I'm letting you have it for free.

Me - Oh, OK then. Thanks

      5 working days apparently...

[... Knowing my luck, It'll probably turn up and be the wrong one, either that or we will find we do get charged after all!]

Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

Not to my knowledge. You're going to be receiving an older router. The order for routers is done through Sky's systems and there are two ways:

      (1) It has to be done through a 'Make Sale' process to receive a 'new N router'. You will be charged 35 on the call or the order cannot be confirmed.

      (2) Replacement routers are done through 'Replace Product' process. Provided you haven't purchased a N router previously in the past 12 months, you're going to be receiving an old router through this process.

Managers who have access to the relevant system can order one directly from the supplier. This will only be done if there is justification to send one for free, of course.

Hmm. Well, I specifically asked for the "new Wireless N router", and asked him to confirm more than once that it was the "new N router".

If they send me the wrong one, I'll be sending the bloody thing straight back!
