Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

I ordered the new router last night, it cost 35 and I will receive it 3-5 working days. I contacted Sky by telephone, he then transferred me to the technical department after taking some details off of me, he told me that it's only the tech department that can take the order for the router?

If possible I might take the cover off the new router to show the insides of it. But only if I can do so without breaking and warranty seals or without breaking anything. I'll post the pictures if I've managed to do this ok.

If you can do this, it would be appreciated. There is a separate thread with pictures already of the outside. It might be good to include them there.

Judging by responses to previous routers, I would suggest that close-up pics of the WiFi & ADSL chips would be appreciated too.

Looking at the Sagem 2304n, the 4 rubber feet are not stuck on, but careful removal reveals 4 Torx screws. Once removed the router comes apart without any damage.

Ok Scubbie, I'll see what I can do when I get mine. If possible I'll take quite a few close up pics of the innards of the router.

Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

As N technology uses 2 aerials it should give better coverage than G routers which have only one. This is in theory, the performance of the new Sky router has yet to be tested, so I would advise anyone contemplating buying one to wait until some reports become available.

Whilst we don't have complete information on the differences between the new Sagem 2504N & the Netgear DG934G, it would be safe to assume that the coverage would be improved.

The Netgear DG934G is only a WiFi g router and will have a shorter range than any WiFi n rated router.

I can personally confirm that the Sagem 2304n (not fully WiFi n rated) does have a better WiFi coverage than the Netgear DG934G.

Having said all this, it is important to realise that you personally may have other environmental factors which could affect any WiFi signal. Examples include electrical devices that interfere with the signal or building materials in your home.

Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

thanks for your replies, i have the devolo plugs in my back room, works wonders, my speed are excellent can download about 1.8Mb. but can not get a good enough connections in this room for wifi (ps3, phone and laptops) have thought about buying another wifi router to extend the range, but this will cost around 15-30. i will ring sky and pay 35 for the router, i'll give it a go, and if its not good (cant imagine it not being any better) then i'll flog it on fea-bay.

Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

You could add another homeplug and connect a cheap wireless router to it to extend your range. It would also give you an ethernet port to plug in your console, which would be far faster and more stable than any wireless connection.
