Do SkyBB ship a free, new router to that customer or does PPPoA still work?
This is unknown at this stage. Sky has a habit of keeping quiet until the last possible moment about such important issues.

Sky does issue updates to the firmware for their own routers from time to time. So far as I know the D-Link DSL-2640S, Sagem 2504 & Sagem 2304n all support MER. I would expect the new router (we think it is called the Sagem 2504N) to support MET as well, but as yet no one has confirmed much about this new router.

I think the only one that does not support it is the DG834GT and as it is getting a bit long in the tooth(as far as Sky models are concerned) they are unlikely to update it. I am hoping to get an offer of a 2504N to replace mine

I've just sent my old Netgear DG934G back to Sky. Unless there has been a new firmware release in recent weeks that mine hadn't picked up, it certainly never connected via MER, but I would agree that it should be possible.

With regards to the DG834GT, sadly recent reports on this forum indicate that the last of them are starting to fail. With this in mind I would suggest that it would not be a good idea to upgrade it to support MER.

Is there a big advantage with MER then? seems extreme swapping everyone over if they have to start dishing out new routers.

To Sky yes, to the user no.

There is updated firmware for the DG934, which may support MER, it certainly supports WPA2 which the present firmware doesn't. Unfortunately, when you go on line with it, it backdates to the old firmware within a few hours for some reason. It is possibly the implementation of MER not working properly that is causing this. I am a bit confused as to why a later version of official Sky firmware should be rejected, but there must be some reason.

The reports that state the DG834GT's are starting to fail - Is that regarding the DG834GT's with Sky Firmware?
I have a DG834GT running DGTeam Firmware on a BT Alcatel DSLAM (1st Generation, I believe) and it runs fine at the moment (Being upgraded to an MSAN soon - Any reports about the stability of the router above 20Mbps?)
