Question How to setup MER on Billion 7800n

      Hi All,

I am trying to setup MER authentication on my Billion 7800n, without much success . I have 2 other Sky routers a white Netgear 834GT and a black Netgear 934. My 934 now has SKY firmware V2.02.34 on it but still connects via PPPOA. the 834 has DG Team firmware on it.

I am on SVBN so would have thought MER would have worked (unless my exchange has not been setup yet). I have tried Protocol set to MPOA RFC 1483, VPI = 0 VCI = 40 and have tried both VC/MUX & also LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING and obviously spoofed the MAC of the WAN port.

I have also tried manually setting a WAN IP, Gateway and DNS on the 7800n from my 934 gets but this did not help either.

Any suggestions what to try next ?

      Cheers Jason

      Use the PPPoA method instead

Re: How to setup MER on Billion 7800n

I am trying to set up a Billion router for Sky but I am using PPPoA but I also want to spoof my MAC and I dont seem to be able to find a setting for it.

On my DG834GT I did it by editing the cfg file then importing the cfg settings back to the router, I have exported the billion cfg file and it can be read and maybe edited to include a MAC address but I am not sure what part to edit or even if it will work.

Will be easier to create a separate entry for MPOA under the WAN connections and edit your mac address in it.

But can you then use the Sky User/Pass and the none static IP?

You just have to create a rule for MPOA and edit your mac address using it. You will still chose to connect as PPPOA. So yes you would get a dynamic ip address.

Just to clarify I am not recommending you connect as MER.

OK I will have another look.

I do not want to connect as MER, do you have a billion router so you could show me a screen shot of what you mean.

When I tried to make the MPOA it gave me an error message about only allowing one instance of a protocol, so I did a factory reset and tried MPOA on its own but could not see where you would enter User/Pass.

      Thanks.

I do have a billion router but one of my neighbours is testing it on his connection these days so can't post a screen sorry. If it does not allow you to save a MPOA and PPPOA rule at the same time. Try spoofing the mac under PPPOE and saving it then creating a PPPOA rule and using that.

And can I just ask why you want to spoof the mac?

Re: How to setup MER on Billion 7800n

Why not try the same as you did with the Netgear?

The Spoofed MAC address is macspoof="" near the end of the .conf file.

I'm confused - easily done at my age - as to what you're trying to as your post above says "I do not want to connect as MER".

It's possible that if you've not already had a MER connection then you might not be configured to allow one.

I've just got the 7800N & a friend has a Dlink with a MER connection so I might try my 7800N on his line to see what I can achieve.

It would seem that you can save a PPPoA and an MPOA connection. Once you created the PPPoA one & saved that go and change the details on that screen to MPOA & then ADD that connection.

I think the entry for the wan mac address of the router is under 'N ib1 ImPorts.ib1' in the config file.
