Poor Wireless N type connection speed
Just connected up my system from BT to Sky, all well on connection to Broadband. However, Wireless for a N type is very poor, was getting over 200Mbps with netgear router on BT Broadband but sky router can only manage 72Mbps.
System Details
Manufacturer Sagemcom
Model Number F@ST2304
Firmware Version 5.14.6.1a4N
ADSL Firmware Version A2pD030n.d23b
Adapter WNDA3100v2
Tried to look for firmware updates but can not locate any in either Sky or Sagemcom.
Tried various channels but all the same, router unlike most routers does not search for updates itself. Additionally, does not allow to specify what type of wireless to choose from unless you want to drop to G type or B type. This is not an issue with my computer or the adapter as tried it back on original router and wireless was back to its original speed.
The sky router is in the same room and has line of sight with the adapter so there are no objects or solid surfaces in between. It is literally the width of a room and the signal strength is good. Is this just a bad router type they have sent me? I rate sky wireless at the moment from 1 to 10 as 3 at the moment. What can be done with the router as this is the problem child.

Re: Poor Wireless N type connection speed
At present the Sagem 2304n has a maximum WiFi speed of 72mbps.
There was rumours that a new firmware to open it up might be release but the end of June at one stage. This has not materialised. It may of course be delayed following all the problems with this router when it was first launched.
There are plans to release a WiFi n rated router at some stage, but Sky hasn't disclosed whether this will be soon or next year.
You could consider purchasing your own WiFi n rated router. Whilst technically against Sky's T&Cs, there are plenty of members who do this.
Your WiFi dongle is a dual-band dongle, so if you were to purchase a router that uses the 5GHz frequency, then it will be able to use that. This is useful in areas such as mine where there are lots of WiFi routers around.
Install inSSIDer to see what the picture is like where you live.

Re: Poor Wireless N type connection speed
to confirm to you, sagemcom full dual band N grade router will be available from sky as of 1st august (they have been trialling this for 6 months with staff members) and for new customers will be provided as standard, existing customers can upgrade for a one off £35 cost, the distinguishing features from that of the sagemcom F@ST2304 router currently are the addition of a WPS button, new sleeker look, 5GhZ dual band wireless N (believe it will be 200mb transfer also) and much more customisable firmware GUI

.... but still no gigabit? Seems a bit off if it doesn't have gigabit.

Or do they have another one not yet certified? I don't think Sagemcom even make a 5gHz dual band router.
