Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

We are going live on Sky Broadband next Wednesday and have received the router today. Unfortunately it is the Sagem F@st 2304 model which I have read so many bad thing about. So I thought I'd try and get the broadband username and password from it so I can possible use my Netgear DG834G router which has worked very well for the past five years.

But I've searched trough Google and can't seem to come across any information on doing this, just information regarding the older (and better) routers Sky used to provide.

Also if I did use my Netgear router what is the likelyhood of Sky finding out? I don't want to get my brother in to trouble and he works from Sky and it's all in his name.

The password generator for the 2504 works with the 2304.

Sky don't seem to bother much if you use your own router, they will not give you support with it, so if you have problems you have to plug in the Sky router. So don't be tempted to put it on eBay.

Thanks very much for your reply. Used that generator and saved the usrname/password. Will have to test it when we go live.

      Yes.

In practise they don't normally worry about it.

Don't resell your Sky Router on eBay or anything like that. Should you need support on your connection at a later date, you may be required to plug the Sky router in. Also the password & log in details are unique to that router.

Does that mean if they have to replace your router at any point, you will be given a new user name and password?

We had the same username and password for the whole 5 years we were with TalkTalk (then again, they supplied us with all the details when we joined).

I would think it would be another user/pass combination as they use LAN Mac address of the router as part of the username.

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

The log in details are embedded into all the Sky routers.

The user name is effectively made from the LAN MAC address. Every router has it's own unique set of MAC addresses (WAN, LAN & WLAN) which are not repeated on any other device on this planet (unless you spoof it).

This means that every Sky router has it's own unique username and password.

We should be going live at some point today and would really like to try my own Netgear router but should I try it straight away or use the Sky Router initally until the DLM is complete?

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

It doesn't actually matter which router is connected. The router doesn't actually have to log in to the Sky servers. So long as a compatible router is connected, DLM can obtain it's stats and work from there.

Why do I know this? My first router didn't arrive, so I just connected my trusty Netgear DGN2000. At the time I didn't have any Sky log in details, so I couldn't use the Internet.
