I'm currently using the Sagem router which seems to be doing ok so far. The Wireless (as I mentioned in another thread) is very poor and some devices including my Vista PCs and iMac (with Netgear WiFi dongle) wouldn't connect to it so at the moment I have my Netgear router working as a WiFi Access Point and all my devices are happy with that.

Hopefully if I get to the bottom of this authentication problem, I'll be able to fully migrate to the Netgear router.
I wonder if resetting the router would help? (i.e. press the reset button)

It does mean that you start all over again, but you could recover everything quickly.

Thanks very much for your help on this thread.

I reset the router like you said but it still wouldn't work, I then spotted the problem. The MAC code of the Sky router router had a 'B' in it and I put '8' by mistake into the password generator!! Once I realised, I quickly corrected it on my Netgear and it connected up instantly.

Plus the slow wireless problem you were helping me with on the other thread has fixed itself now too. Having everything just on the Netgear and the Sky Router unplugged has speeded up the WiFi so much!!!

Everything is working great now. Just hope Sky don't start changing things again and causing any problems with the connection because I'm a happy customer at the moment!!

      Thanks very much once again!

      Well done!

Nice to know it was something simple in the end.

Our broadband has jumped up to 6.57 Mbps today:

Hopefully it should reach 10Mbps within the next ten days (like we was on with TalkTalk)

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

I've got the same problem BUT I copied and pasted the MAC address and default WPA code and then copied and pasted the username into my old D-Link 604+ which was great.

I get the dreaded auth error.

If anyone can help I will be soooo greatful!

The only other settings that are important are-
      Encapsulation: PPPoA
      VPI/VCI: 0/38
      Multiplexing: VC
      MTU 1500

Have you updated the Dlink firmware to allow ADSL2+?

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

      Hi Tom

No I have not altered the firmware. Would this change the authentication though?
I think I am fighting a losing battle here. The reset router with the password provided results in an auth fail error so I think it may be something else?

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

The 604+ was only capable of G.DMT(ADSL1) at 8Mbps with its original firmware, further more it only had a wireless speed of 22 Mbps, which is less than half the Sky routers. There may be firmware available to upgrade it, if there is not I would be inclined to put it into retirement.
      ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/product_datasheets/DSL-604+.pdf

The DSL-G604T which I have was originally G.DMT only, but an update brought it up to ADSL2+. It is not as good as the Sky routers.

      OK, thanks Tom.
What off the shelf router would you recommend? I just want wifi and ideally one where I can plug in a DNS server such as OPENDNS as I have young kids
