Thanks for your reply. I think I'll try using the Netgear straight away then.

If only Sky were sensible and still provided a Netgear router I'd be more than happy to use that. My brother ordered a wireless adapter for his Sky HD box and it arrived today. Guess what - it's made by Netgear!! If only the main router was.

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

Just got on Sky Broadband. Couldn't use my Netgear router as the password/username I got from that site was wrong! I went through the process again but all the details I entered were correct.

The main problem is now though, my speed is 4096 KBPS whereas on TalkTalk I was on 10000 KBPS!

Why should it be so slow?

I was successful in getting the password from this site:

      https://www.cm9.net/skypass/

Use the option for the Sagem F@ST 2504.

As for you speed, don't worry. This is the normal initial connection speed and will improve as DLM does it's work.

If you post you full stats, then someone can provide you with an indication of the speed you should be able to obtain.

Thanks for your reply, I used that site and selected the 'Sagem F@ST 2504' from the list, entered the Sky Router's MAC Address (without colons) and WPA key (Password) as listed on the little card they provide. It generated a username made up of the mac address with '@skydsl' at the end and a password with loads of different characters/numbers in it.

I copied the data from the website straight into Notepad then into the router settings (so I know it isn't a typo). My Netgear router finds the internet and tries to log on but keeps coming up with the error 'CHAPS authentication failed' in the log.

PS. My Sagem Router Stats are:

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

Remember that DLM will start anytime over the next 3 days. It will do it's work between the hours of 1am to 6am.

According to the tool on this site and based on your line attenuation, you should expect a line speed of 10Mb to 12Mb.

With regards to the Netgear Router, I'm not 100% sure what will cause that error, but could I suggest that you double check the settings please?

Encapsulation: PPPoA, VC based (not LLC)
      VPI: 0
      VCI: 38

All the other settings should be set as default.

Re: Obtaining Username and Password from Sagemcom F@st 2304

Should the MTU setting be 1500 Scubbie as I have finally migrated over today and am using my existing Netgear DG834GT?

      Current stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4092 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0 db 20.1 db
Noise Margin 14.9 db 18.5 db

      Cheers

Apologies, yes the MTU should be set to 1500. 1492 may work as well, but 1500 is the default setting on the other Sky routers and works well enough.

Thanks again Scubbie - I have set my primary/secondary DNS servers to automatic and it has chosen 90.207.238.97 & .99 - are these the best one's to use?

      Thanks for your reply.

I've checked those settings on my Netgear router and they all match what you say they should be.

I'm currently using the Sagem router which seems to be doing ok so far. The Wireless (as I mentioned in another thread) is very poor and some devices including my Vista PCs and iMac (with Netgear WiFi dongle) wouldn't connect to it so at the moment I have my Netgear router working as a WiFi Access Point and all my devices are happy with that.

Hopefully if I get to the bottom of this authentication problem, I'll be able to fully migrate to the Netgear router.

We was getting 10 Mbps on TalkTalk so that sounds about right. My brother (who works for Sky) has told me everybody starts off at 4 Mbps while on DLM.

These are the default DNS servers for Sky.

Some people like to use OpenDNS or Google DNS.

It is entirely up to you.
