Re: Sagem F@ST 2304n WiFi issues

      Update:

Following my previous 'update' post, today I have set up the other Laptop & my main desktop to stream constantly for some of the morning & all afternoon from TVCatchup.

They've both remained connected, but have stuttered periodically.

I've also been using my main laptop to browse the Internet at the same time.

      What has this proved?

Well provided that the router doesn't actually drop it's WiFi connection, it is capable of delivering a constant video stream to two devices at SD quality, just.

If the connection issues can be resolved, then it should be a nice router.

Re: Sagem F@ST 2304n WiFi issues

Ok I shall post here ... it's an issue I'm having with the router, but not currently wifi related. But since I've had Wifi issues, it's worth mentioning here.

I've been out for most the day, and not been using the router. This evening I've been tidying some cabling in my office, and decided to stream some music via spotify. What I found was:

I was connected to the Wifi of the router. The router stats page would work. I could do NSLOOKUP on the SKY DNS servers, or using Google DNS servers. Ping and Traceroute would not work for DNS names, but fine for IP Addresses. Initially leading me to think it was DNS Servers.

Web pages would not be served at all ... other than the Router Stats page.

When I rebooted the router, it would work momentarily and then stopped again.

I've tried using a wired connection ... exactly the same.
I've rebooted my laptop ... same.
I've used my iPhone ... won't serve web pages, but Email "seems" to be working.

I'm currently posting this update from a spare Android phone using tethering!

In the morning I'm going to configure my DG843N router, running DGTeam firmware with the Sky settings. Be a useful comparison ... although it seems it might break my Anytime+ service looking at the forums.

This sounds similar to the issue I had, which I blamed on the TV.

My email still worked and came through without any problems, but the router really went strange on me. No web browser was working.

It is possible that the issue is actually related to the WiFi. Robert asked on the Sky Help Forum if I would do a few things. This resulted in the router going completely screwy. When I put in the address for the BBC web site, I ended up getting my router's home page instead.

Somewhere inside the router, the database is becoming corrupted. It'll be interesting to see the guys fix this one.

The Sky D-link is set up to serve up its own home page if the PPPoA connection drops. Which I find very annoying, as my browser continues to resolve the website(s) I was trying to visit while the connection was down to the router's own webserver, for a while even after the connection is restored. If the sagem is doing the same, try the network repair option, or rebooting the PC.

PPPoA connection (or more accurately MER) was up.

Well I rebooted the 2304n the following day and it was up and running for a few minutes and then stopped serving web pages again. I was keen not to reboot the router too often, but each time I rebooted it ... even with a physical power off and back on, it would still only serve pages for a matter of minutes.

Out of curiosity and annoyance I configured my Netgear DG834N router. Strange that the 2304n uses VCI 40, and I had to use VCI 38.

Anyway, after changing VCI to 38 ... bang it connected, no bother.

I need to check if Sky Anytime+ works properly, but it's not a major biggie!

I'm still going to log a call with Sky regarding the router, as it's only fair that they should fix the equipment they supply ... especially if they expect me to use it!

Re: Sagem F@ST 2304n WiFi issues

PPPoA requires VCI to be set to 38.

MER requires VCI to be set to 40.

It is likely that when the Sagem is connecting, you are on MER.

Re: Sagem F@ST 2304n WiFi issues

Hello there. I have this router and it drops the connection a lot. Sometimes it just drops the actual WiFi connection or it drops the internet connection. I have to switch it off and on again and wait for it to connect before I have any internet. Sky have checked the line and said all is ok and I have had a new microfilter which has not changed anything. It seems to be if I put it under a bit of strain e.g youtube, downloading large files etc. Any help would be appreciated.
