      Thanks for the reply Scubbie,
Being a newbie I don't have a spare router, so for now I'll hunt out the 7 metre cable and be wifi free for a while.
If I do buy a direct replacement, how annoyed are Sky likely to get if I want it to be permanent? Should I officially inform them or go rogue?

      Newbie at my age...

I have been using my own Netgear DG834GT router from day 1 as I have also been sent the Sagemcom that has issues. A lot of people on this forum have been using their own equipment for years with no problems. My only suggestion is that you keep the Sky router just incase you have any problems and need to call them up as they will only provide support with their own router.

Your post has cheered me up!

My go-live with Sky is only a couple of days away and I was dreading it.

Having read your comments (and at the age of 66) I am now relishing the prospect of "going rogue!!!!!

A 10m Ethernet cable should be quite easy to get hold of. You could get hold of one for under 5. Play.com are advertising one for as little as 2.34.

Alternatively, you could get hold of a cheap WiFi n router for as little as 20.

As for the age of people, there are plenty of silver surfers out there.

Thankfully I don't have any grey hairs at the moment. Genetics & hair dye are my excuse.

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST 2304n Information

Hi everyone, Been reading this forum, and posts here from a day or so into my activation from an ADSL1 enta reseller (who i've been extremely happy with), to Sky LLU.
I'm due to go live on Tuesday

I too have been sent the lovely Sagemcom 2304N router, I've connected it up to mains and ethernet and disabled the wifi completely (it's not 100% needed here luckily as i'm ethernet cabled in)

I was wondering if there's anything obvious I may have overlooked to possibly use my current router if things don't end up stable.

Current router is a netgear DG834, but I also have a hacked (username & password removed) sky router (an old black model)

Current router stats on ADSL1 on WNCB

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 18 db 5 db
Noise Margin 11 db 30 db

      Here are some additional stats I have (on my current entanet connection);

      >ping bbc.co.uk

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.254.251] with 32 bytes of data:
      Reply from 212.58.254.251: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=245
      Reply from 212.58.254.251: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=245
      Reply from 212.58.254.251: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=245
      Reply from 212.58.254.251: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=245

      Ping statistics for 212.58.254.251:
      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 18ms

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/speedtester/ results; 6880 / 373

The noise margin is a pretty stable 11dB, but depending on the time of the day it's quite a stable 15dB ( I have a 3rd party D-Link filter, the one that came with it the noise margin fluctuates very wildly in comparison )

I've been to the site and obtained my username and password for the router, just wondering if there's anything i've overlooked.

Speedwise i'm hoping for 14mbps or a touch more, we'll see!

You attenuation will rise a little when you are transferred to ADSL2+ (i.e. Sky's LLU). I would guess that you will get around a 15-16Mb connection.

If you want people to help with you connection speed, please feel to click the link below and post you router stat there:

Looks like there might be light at the end of the tunnel for people with dodgy Sagemcom routers. I have it on good authority the firmware update is going out soon, don't have an exact date as not officially confirmed.

Exclamation Re: Sagemcom F@ST 2304n Information

There is a post on the official sky forums. Sky Help Forum - Sagemcom F@ST2304 Router Issues - Help & Support from the Official Sky Forum

I had also been waiting like many others here for the firmware update for this router I had returned to using the orginal SAGEM 2504 in the meantime until their post updated that the firmware was now out, however yesterday I phoned up sky tech support asking if they know a ETA on the firmware update the guy didn't have a clue about this router issue, I directed him to the official forum link above, then he said he would be right back, came back and said that each customer who has the issue will be updated individually and a phone call to check it was successful over the next couple days since I reported it with my 2304 I am still waiting for the phone call for successful update. I said thats ridiculous I wouldn't of even contacted tech support about this issue since I was just waiting for the sky forum to update to state its out now, I only happened to phone up about a "error bill" they sent to me, then also asked about this firmware update. I guess not everyone with the sagemcom 2304 is having the issue then?

So everyone who has a problem with this router please phone up sky so they can "manually" update your routers firmware.

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST 2304n Information

I was informed yesterday that I would be rxing a new router (no promise of the type). Previous to this I was informed that a firmware update for the Sagecoms would be rolled out by the end of hte month. I have been with Sky less than a month and have been unable to get stable wifi up and running from day one - help desk does seem ti be out of hte loop on solutions, but they have called me twice to pass on information :

      Re: Sagemcom F@ST 2304n Information

Well, true to their word Sky activated the line about 2 minutes to midnight Tuesday, so I spent yesterday trying to 'break' it.
I didn't run any speed tests, I thought I'd let it settle down for a day or 2.
My partner had her laptop plugged in (via a 10mtr cable), and I ran mine wifi, sofar no problems.
I even managed to watch NASA tv live in HD!.
