    Router slow-down

    This is a discussion on Router slow-down within the Sky Router forums, part of the Sky Broadband help category; A bit of an odd one that I just wanted to double-check on... Sometime on Saturday my internet connection speed ...

      Question Router slow-down

      A bit of an odd one that I just wanted to double-check on...

      Sometime on Saturday my internet connection speed dropped off considerably, the router is reporting ~15mb connection when it's actually delivering ~2mb in actual use.

      I phoned Sky Sunday morning and was told after going through a test (at their end) that it was probably the router needed replacing (the operator told me his router did the same and was faulty).

      Sky are sending a new router out which isn't a problem, but I can't help but feel that the router would just stop working, not get really slow.

      Any one else encountered this before? I am not a heavy downloader (apart from streaming Apple TV rentals and the like, but haven't had an issue up to this weekend.)

      It is likely that with this type of response that you have been given bona-fide info.

      Could you post your stats though?

      It is also worth noting that your area was experiencing problems recently with slow speeds due to major problem with the Sky network. I haven't seen any posts recently to confirm or deny that it has been resolved.

      The result of the issue was that it didn't matter what your connection speed was, your actual d/l was reduced.

      I am at work at the moment but will post the stats tonight.

      The slow-down in our area hasn't affected us as badly as it has over the weekend, so it's either getting worse or it's a combination of things.

      I've just been looking to see what the current situation is according to Sky's Help Forum.

      It would appear that many of the areas are now working, but some are still experiencing problems. Your area appears to be in the clear now. Scroll down a little to read Robert's post:

      Sky Help Forum - Slow, every night after 7pm - Page 38 - Help & Support from the Official Sky Forum

      Areas upgraded so far:

      We’ve completed the upgrade work in Kidbrooke, Chester and North Wales as planned. The Broadband service in these areas should be back to normal and we’re sorry for any disruption that you may have experienced while we completed the upgrade work in your area. If you’re still experiencing slow speeds it could be due to your home set up visit the Broadband Helpcentre for tips to get the most from your Sky Broadband connection.

      Areas currently affected:

      Elstree, St Albans, Welwyn Garden, Stevenage, Welwyn

      Leatherhead, Crawley, East Grinstead, Horley, Horsham, Billingshurst, Lingfield

      Stockton, Darlington, Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Northallerton, Whitby

      We’re working to upgrade all of these exchanges as quickly as possible and will continue to update on the Sky Service Status page and the Sky Help Forum.
      This could suggest that you need to look

      Getting consistent over ~10mb speeds at the moment (using London and the Maidstone servers). So things seem to be improving... *Crosses fingers*

      That seems to be looking good now.

      Keep an eye on this section of the SkyUser forum:

      Sky Broadband Service Status

      A 'Bot' has been set up to automatically feed input from Sky when there are problems logged. Last weekend a problem was reported in Greenwich which could have had knock-on effects for you through the backbone cabling.

      You might benefit from installing 'Router Stats Lite'. This might show if the problem returns and can log the results to a file.

      Received a new Sagem router on Saturday. Installed it. All seems fine and WAY more consistent than the previous one.

      Will post them tonight, but from memory Speedtest.net on Saturday reported back between 11 and 12mb in almost every test.
