Re: Cannot connect new HP Lap top to Netgear router

I have previously had two different laptops play up in this same manner.

I was interested to see if there was something else I had missed, so was keeping this solution quiet.

Essentially one was on Win XP, the other on Win Vista. Both different brands, but both were on WiFi g.

My solution was to change the WiFi key to lowercase, instead of uppercase letters. In both cases it worked.

I'd suggest sticking to the same passkey, but changing the router's passkey to be all in lowercase if the uppercase still fails. Also, if it is available, set the security options to WPA-PSK. WPA2-PSK is more secure, but not available on my Sky Netgear router.

Clearly, she's good at following instructions.
It's gonna be a doddle for her.

Why risk bricking a router when there is no real need for it? It is also against the T & Cs which should always be made known, when recommending this.
