There were a few posters reporting stability issues with the D-link - mostly Connect customers - so hopefully they'll have fixed that.

I'd guess that they might have added support for MER.

I'd also hope that they've improved the poorly implemented firewall rules settings, so that they work the same as the original sky netgear router, but I expect not.

That would be a good idea! I assume the D-link routers came with a copy of the Sky_1.11 firmware and a recovery utility, so with a bit of luck it might still be possible to temporarily downgrade the firmware to extract the password, if you have to.

Having had a few line faults and ISP issues with a couple of my previous ISPs, I like to keep a spare router set up and checked working with my ISP, so when I have a connection problem, I just have to get it out the draw and plug it in the test socket to rule out my end.

I'm going to try to make a complete dump of the existing firmware, just in case it can't be downgraded.

No change here still have SKY_1.11

Is there any way you can poison the update URL?

      Re: New D-Link DSL-2640S Firmware Sky_2.04?

My router has been upgraded to 2.04, support has been added for MER and my connection speed seems slightly higher with this firmware.

      Code:

Port	Status	TxPkts	RxPkts	Collisions	Tx B/s	Rx B/s	Up Time
      WAN	MER	570055	792511	0	324	3682 71:38:11
      LAN 7574111	37226140	0	3593	4915 111:06:00
      WLAN 6613394	6734648	0	1799	4022 71:38:03
      ADSL Link	Downstream	Upstream
Connection Speed	3072 kbps	796 kbps
      Line Attenuation	57.0db	34.9db
      Noise Margin	6.8db	9.3db
      I also have

Network Type MER on the status page.

Well, I guess adding an outbound rule to the router's firewall to block the IP address of the update server "dsl-2640s.skyfirmware.com" ought to work.

EDIT: no I'm wrong, the update will bypass the firewall rules which leaves killing the update process.

You could kill the upgrade process, but of course, that wouldn't survive a reboot. "killall -9 upgrader" via the shell injection option in my program.

Doing so would be against Sky's T&Cs, and I don't think it is really worthwhile, other than to ensure that the router doesn't upgrade before you get a chance to extract the password.

God i hope so, my connection reboots about 3 times a day for no apparent reason at all, i am on Sky LLU but not on the SVBN.

Just for comparison if the firmware comes my way:

Connection Speed 4832 kbps 800 kbps
      Line Attenuation 53.5db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 7.1db 11.0db
