Apart from websites there are many ISPs who give out static IPs to their users and in some cases charge extra for them, BE, O2 Plusnet etc.. There is s slightly better chance of being hacked if you have a fixed address, but a properly configured router will stop all but the most skilful hacker. In the days of modem only connections, this may have been a great worry, but not now.

My DLink Sky router got this 2.04 upgrade Thursday night/Friday morning.

Also noticed this firmware version also fixes the UPnP issue with certain HP printers

Are you on the SVBN(Sky phone rental)? Just guessing, but it may only be these that are being updated, to allow the MER connection. It may not be available on the original Sky equipment, which you will be on with BT rental.

Yep, I am fully Sky'd (phone inc. line rental, broadband and TV).

It should come to you in due course. Sky will not want to upgrade too many at the same time in case there are problems.

Hi, I am new to this site but have been monitoring it since my sky installation in FEB. I have been on to sky to see if they can send me the new 2.04 firmware for my DSL-2640s router. So far SKY have said get it of the D-Link site. (Router Does Not Exist). We will send you the V5 SKY installation disk. (Sent V4 instead). Now I am told to ask if anyone in the forum has a copy of the 2.04 Firmware that they cout either email or torrent me. (Are'nt SKY wonderful). In the meantime I am still chasing them for my free £50 M&S vouchers which they say I am not entitled to although I have a stack of emails which they sent that say the contrary. Anyway if anyone can help out that would be great.

I don't think Sky have released the updated firmware on a CD yet, I asked in this forum about the CD supplied with their new sagem router, and apparently that doesn't include firmware for previous routers, unlike the one that came with the d-link.

I only get my broadband from Sky, line rental, calls are still with BT and I was switched over to MER a couple of months back.
