What if my router receives the update and reboots as it will, I'm in my 10 day training period ! P.S. does changing the wifi channel reboot the router on the D-link ?

Changing the WiFi channel does not require a router reboot.

One reboot of the router during training will not cause problems. Only several over a short period would cause DLM to take action.

Having had a few line faults and ISP issues with a couple of my previous ISPs, I like to keep a spare router set up and checked working with my ISP, so when I have a connection problem, I just have to get it out the draw and plug it in the test socket to rule out my end.

I'm going to try to make a complete dump of the existing firmware, just in case it can't be downgraded.
If the upgrade is accompanied by a switch from PPPoA to MER your username/password will be useless because MER uses the ADSL port MAC address of the router to authenticate it on the network and not the username/password.

That's not too difficult then, as many routers allow you to spoof the MAC address and Sky's are printed on the underside of the routers.

Is there a way of forcing this update rather than waiting it out?

Resyncing your router with the exchange may force it, try turning the power off to your router for a few minutes then back on again.

Currently, only users on Sky's voice and broadband MSANS are being switched to MER, but they haven't switched users on their Easynet LLU (not yet anyway) and can't use MER for Sky connect users.

I believe Sagem users on the new MSANs are still able to use PPPoA with other routers, although Sky could decide to stop that if they wish.

A lot of non-sky users probably have routers that don't support MER - none of my routers do. From what I gather, MER combines 1483 bridge mode for the connection to the ISP, with NAT.

I think the routers normally check for an update once a month, and when they do that they also query the sky server for the update period, so they would presumably make it check daily if an update is due. Sky will probably roll the update out gradually, so even if you forced the router to check for an update, Sky's server might not provide one. Resetting the router might make it check the firmware server, but I'm not sure about that.

still no sign of it for me so it makes me wonder if it is only for SVBN punters?
